Q:Dumb question. How well does this setup cut long grass think weeds? Got about 800yards of creek line that grows the thickest long stringy grass

Answer This Question

A:  With the metal blade it is more design for thick stems. I have a echo grass machine that does the job on thinner items like grass with no hesitation. The weed machine is also a little heavy for that distance and also uses a lot more gas. I purchased the adapter for the grass unit to use pre cut line makes cutting easier than threading the spool

A:  Not the ideal tool for that type is usage.

    Answer This Question

A:  It will probably work, but you are using gas with ethanol, should never do as this a two cycle machine and you will be having carburetor problems - little more price for the Echo gas, but well worth it down the line when you will need a repair shop

    by|Apr 2, 2021

A:  Hi Fred! Thank you for your inquiry. You can use any oil with your ECHO products as along as whatever oil you are using meets the same requirements as the ECHO oil. The oil will need to be "FD" Certified.

A:  Due to the higher expense, the stores will probably not stock them - order on line through Home Depot you will have it in about 10-12 days - be sure to but the Echo gas that has no ethanol, no carburetor problems

            Q:what is its horsepower rating

A:  There isn’t a direct hp to cc relationship but it is generally around 14 - 17 cc per hp. That would put this unit at 2.5 - 3hp. Just like cars do with the same size engines do not all have the same hp - not all trimmer motors will be the same. This unit has enough power to not even slow down on saplings up to about 2” in diameter and has taken down 5” trees for me as fast as a chainsaw. On the bigger stuff you’ll want to back cut so you don’t get kickback. The nicest thing about this unit is taking the brush down at ground level without bending over.

A:  Should be on the web page or manufactures details - believe me when I say it has all the power you will need up until you go for California Redwoods

              Initial Impression- Exceeds expectations
After three days use now, I’ve been impressed that I can get three or four hours of cutting on a tank of gas. The SRM-410U certainly has the power to cut through three to four stalks of 3/4-1” diameter brush, almost-dead Cat's Claw and Scrub Oak, with a single swipe. It also cuts OK through 2-3” scrub oak, but there is a tendency for the blade to bind when cutting in from the “outside” of the tree, unless you make wedge cuts, or can get access to the core of the trunks. I've found that I need to swap/sharpen the 10” 80-T blade everyday, but I’m cutting in a 99% granite environment. I also tried the 8” 22T brush blade which cuts great for a short while, but gets dulled quickly with even minor excursions into the granite dust. I also purchased the 4 point premium shoulder harness which really distributes the brush cutters weight well. The only time I notice the machines bulk is when I’m opening the latch on the harness with one hand while holding the cutter by its support chain with two fingers while trying to get it secured into the harness catch. The SRM-410U looks and feels to be a top-quality product and has exceeded my expectations so far.

SEE Pics they do say what I can't. Unit was easy to assemble took no more then 30 minutes with customizing for my "fit". Started flawlessly and runs great. I have used it two days and must say I'm impressed. I'm not a tree guy or anything special just a normal 53 yr old. The harness that comes with the unit renders it almost weightless you will be surprised I was. Watch the straps/padding on shoulder they do tend to move down with movement easy fix safety pin. Yes, I'm tired it will work you. I have had this Echo for 2 days and am loving every minute. It took me awhile and if your reading this I read the reviews too and it helped me make my decision. I hope the pics help. :) Good luck.

                Incredible Capability!
I have a significant amount of cedar (invasive juniper) to clear on my property. Trees range from 1" -12" in diameter. Obviously I can't cut the big trees with this brush cutter, but for anything up to about 2.5" this tool is an absolute dream! I did replace the standard cutting blade with an 80 tooth carbide tipped blade, and we made short work of the small juniper trees mixed in with all the large ones. A tank of gas lasted for over an hour so I was able to stay on task and cut cedar instead of having to continuously refuel. The provided harness is a must because the tool gets heavy nearing the end of the fuel fill, but once I balanced the tool on the single point attachment, the ergonomics were fine. I have heard that Echo has modified their 2-cycle engines to accept ethanol gas and I was very pleasantly surprised to find this apparently true. For three weeks of cutting, and too many refuelings to count, the tool started each time on the first or second pull. I did slightly downgrade on ease of use, but to be fair, any 6' tool attached to your hip will be a bit cumbersome. Echo has done a good job with the guidance handles, but you do have to pay attention. The ability to keep on the move while clearing cedar proved invaluable to me and my work partner. We'd choose a chunk of land, clear all the little stuff, then come back with a chainsaw. Not having to use the chainsaw on the small stuff was a life (and back) saver. I wholeheartedly recommend this tool to landowners who have a real clearing job in front of them!

                I call it Mr. Echo
I bought this 5 years ago when I purchased 10 brush covered acres. It is my go to machine to keep paths cleared and blackberries under control. I use echo Red armor and ethanol free gas and have had zero issues with it. I did find it awkward to attach it to the harness, so i attached a swivel eye snap to the harness pull pin and it is much easier to snap that onto the ring on the handle. Excellent product.

My 2nd unit currently have SRM225
I bought the 225 a couple of months ago and love it, it's powerful and does a quick and dirty job on grass and brush. Recently converted it to a chain blade tree trimmer. It eats through 2-3 inch limbs like a knife thru butter. Could use a bit more power. Thus the purchase of the 410u. I will return my 225 back to a string trimmer. These become an excellent investment as compared to hiring landscapers or aboritists. One word of caution, chain tooth blades have the potential to kickback quite hard. I turned my handle 90 degree's to the right in order to get a good 9oclock position on the blade. See pics below
