How much pressure does this produce? Will I be able to draw water from a barrel and spray the peak of the roof of my house from the ground (45'?) or would a sprinkler pump be more effective?
Asked by: SirNicksAlot
No this pump is not suited for this purpose. However this pump may better serve your purpose. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Wayne-1-HP-Stainless-Steel-Portable-Sprinkler-Pump-PLS100/203448494?MERCH=REC-_-SearchPLPHorizontal1_rr-_-NA-_-203448494-_-N

I would like to use this pump to run 2 or 3 sprinkler heads, part time, in my yard. I will pump from the lake at my yard edge so water travel to pump could be as little at 10 feet. Elevation would be no more than 6 feet. After pump, the run to my common pop up sprinkler heads would be maybe 10 to 15 feet apart. I plan on using 3/4 pvc pipe. Setup will be screwed together and just used during dry months a couple times a week for a couple hours each time. I may use garden 5/8 hose instead of pvc if OK. Electric would have to be run by extension cord about 100 feet away. I would put some type of a strainer on pond water and try to float the pickup just below the surface but well off the bottom. Would this work and survive? Any suggestions on a better way to make this temporary, quick set up/take down system? Does this pump have an on/off switch? I am on city water but don't want to use "good" water to sprinkle yard, pat the extra $20-30 dollars a month, and water when I need it not only on the days or hours when I am permitted. I have a regular, complete sprinkler system that I use but this would be used to supplement areas that need more water due to landscaping maturing and many trees make running new line impractical.

WILL THIS PUMP GIVE ME 60 PSI TO A PRESSURE TANK THAT SERVES MY HUNTING CABIN. IT WILL BE PUMPING OFF OF A GRAVING WATER TANK ??
Asked by: HANK
The pump that I reviewed produced 38 PSI on my gauges at zero feet of lift. But to answer your question, no, the pump will not hold pressure when turned off and it is not made for continuous pressure like a well pump. This pump does not have a built in back check and pressure will flow back to source as soon as the pump is turned off.

1/2 HP Cast Iron Transfer/Booster Pump is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Pump I bought this to water my garden from a series of 5 Water Barrels that I have hooked up together. Its perfect for that. It pumps a tremendous capacity, Ive used it to water by hand or through sprinklers. With regards to priming, as long as the pump is below the water level of the water supply, it remains flooded and fully primed. You just need to install a valve on the discharge, to stop the water from flowing right through the pump when shut down. I also installed a switch on an extension cord going to it. So now ita as simple as "Open valve, Turn on Switch".

The Eco Flo Half Horse power pump is at best a very light duty pump for the small jobs you may have around the house or at work. This pump will do about 21 Gallons per minute @ 10 Feet and approx. 16 Gallons per minute @ 25 Feet. NOTE THIS PUMP IS NOT SELF PRIMING AS DESCRIBED! I find that priming is a pain but if you install a valve in place of the plug it will make it much easier to prime, just don't spill all over the motor. As for not using an extension cord this pump only draws 8 Amps so a 14/3 extension cord will be more than adequate for 25'-50' Since it is rated at 15 Amps. If you are to go a hundred feet I would probably use a 12/3 Ext Cord.

It MIGHT self prime if the water supply is higher than the pump and the water gravity feeds to the pump, but the pump should NOT be run dry so you will need to prime it every time it is started without water in it. If you leave it connected and there is still water in the hose it will stay primed. It is a heavy pump and could use a better handle for portability but it does move the water. It is for intermittent use only. It comes with a extra set of brushes,2 garden hose connectors and a garden hose screen.

My goal in getting this product was to successfully operate a pressure washer by using water from a rain barrel. My pressure washer would not do this directly when I put the input hose into the rain barrel. However, when I put this transfer pump between the rain barrel and the pressure washer, I could successfully use the pressure washer. The pressure washer has plenty of pressure using this method. In this application, I learned some things about the pump. 1. I wish it had an off/on switch 2. I would like to have a much longer power cable 3. I would like to be able to use an extension cord. I would think it would work with an extension cord, but the instructions tell you not to use one. While operating the pump, I noticed that one of the four bolts that attaches the pump housing to the motor assembly had come loose. When I tightened it the bolt snapped. The manufacturer also states that the pump should not be run continuously. I do not know how long you can run it before you need to unplug it. The description of the pump stated it was self-priming, however the instructions say not to run it dry. The instructions tell you to remove a plug with a wrench, pour water into the pump housing and then screw the plug back in. If you must do all that to prime it, it really doesn’t seem to be self-priming!! I believe the pump will continue to do a good job of transferring water from one location to another and boost the water pressure in some situations.

Needed a pump with significant head pressure to be used to charge and flush solar how water systems. Chose this one partially due to its claim: "The PUP57 is a heavy duty self-priming transfer/utility pump." Imagine my surprise upon opening the box when I am greeted with a big STOP READ THIS FIRST page which says: "3. Prime pump by removing plug..." and a warning on the pump itself to "do not run pump dry" prime here... So not as happy as I could be.

I needed one to pressurize the solar loop to 40 psi, and this one did the job. Kind of a pain to prime and clear, but did the job. I used a heavy duty multiple outlet cord with a switch on it to let me cycle power to the pump while flushing and charging the system.
