Questions & Answers

I just received my lawn mower. It mentions wearing protective glasses and a face shield. Is the face shield necessary?

Asked by: Kath
The short answer is no for the face shield. Always wear safety glasses when operating power equipment though at the very least.

Battery life

Battery life
Asked by: Mandy
Mandy: I have EGO Mower, Blower, Trimmer, etc. This BATTERY for the mower (7.5 Ah) lasted 16-18 mos and now won't charge. What is worse is, I can't get support cause all I do is hang on the phone for over an hour or ask for a call back and it never happens. So, I'm about to take the BATTERY (which sells for $350 or so) back to HomeDepot and demand a new one from them directly. Otherwise, I love my EGO products. Highly recommend a second battery like the 5 Ah or so unless you want to re-charge the battery and take a break.

21 in. 56-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Battery Walk Behind Self Propelled Lawn Mower - Battery/Charger Not Included is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 4896.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meets all my expectations and more I bought this after tearing my rotator cuff and subsequent surgery when starting a gas powered mower. I researched many battery powered mowers and settled on the EGO. I also read many reviews and concluded that many of the slightly negative to negative reviews would have been unnecessary had the reviewers read the manual prior to operating the mower. The mower I have has six height settings. Since it's the first mowing of the year I wanted to cut the grass short prior to fertilizing so I tried setting it on it's lowest setting. The lowest setting is evidently for cutting putting greens, not for mature lawns. The number two setting cut much lower than I normally do and was perfect for the first cutting. Even though the grass was very thick the mower cut very well and much better than my gas mower. Even though it had to cut through very thick grass the battery lasted exactly as advertised and the charger quickly returned the battery to operating condition.

My gasoline lawnmower finally died last fall and I knew it would have to be replaced this spring. After some research on all available options out there I bit the bullet and went for the Ego 21" Self-propelled mower (made easier with a lower price @ HD). This weekend I finally did an initial mow of my 1/2 acre lawn (with wet grass) and can report that this is the easiest mower I have ever used. I can't get over how light it is. Love the variable speed control for the self-propelled part: I use fast on the one big area and then slow things down on the smaller areas. I never realized I needed this feature. In particular I love that I can lift it via its handle into the shed. And given that the unit is stored vertically, I can now sharpen the blades with my drill attachment after ever cut without having to drain the gas tank first. I'm never going back to gasoline after this. P.S. I also picked up the 10" pole saw and 15" weed trimmer. This is a well-designed system.

After less than a year the self propel feature stopped working along with the indication of the mower over heating in 68 degree weather. After being instructed by EGO support to take the mower to Home Depot for repair I was informed by HD the mower would be shipped to Atlanta for repair which takes anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks. If I would have thought about repair issues before purchasing the EGO this would have been a probable show stopper. These mowers need to be designed so a DIY person can trouble shoot and possibly make repairs. Having to wait 8 weeks is ridiculous. If this is going to be the case, EGO should have in place a deal with HD to lend a mower at no charge to the customer for warranty issues. Renting a HD mower would run from $600 to $800. I will admit that we were pretty happy with the mower operation (therefore the 2 stars) and up until yesterday (4/10/18) would have recommended it as a 5 star buy. But any tool that can take two months to warranty repair is not worth it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I'm crazy about EGO but this doesn't mulch!!!! I had the first 20 inch model and loved it. It was perfect. It mulched beautifully. I loved it so much that I went out and bought everything you guys sell....the string trimmer, the hedge trimmer, the blower, and chain saw! All are top notch by the way! I didn't mind charging the battery on my original mower to finish my backyard because it gave me a perfect opportunity to relax and grab a cold one, but when I found out about the new 7.5 ah battery, I just had to have it. It only made sense for me to sell my original ego mower and get the new one with the big battery. Now I am sorry I did. Although I am impressed with the battery, the mulching on this is pathetic. I have to go back over my lawn with the EGO 530cf blower to dispose of the grass clumps. I wanted to love it but I am just heartbroken and disappointed. It is half the mower my original one was. EGO is this something that can be fixed or am I stuck with an expensive dud?? I'd love to hear some input on this as I see others have this issue as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I wanted to get rid of my loud, messy and temperamental gas mower. I bought the EGO Model LM2102... I wanted to get rid of my loud, messy and temperamental gas mower. I bought the EGO Model LM2102SP and have been using it for 6 months on my Southwest Florida lawn. We have tough grass in south Florida and I knew it would be a challenge for an electric mower. Pros: Quiet. Instant start. Self-propel feature works great. Cuts my 60’ X 100’ lawn in 1 charge if I don’t let the grass get too tall. Folds small and stands upright by itself. No gas or oil mess and no fumes. Quick battery charge. Cons: Narrow wheels sink into thick Florida grass. If the grass gets too tall, it can easily get bogged down. Tall grass plus self-propel equals 2 charges to finish the lawn. Mulching feature doesn’t work well. Grass just gets packed up under the deck and you have to stop and scrape it clean. Blade needs frequent sharpening. In summary; The EGO Mower meets my goals for getting rid of the gas mower. It does a good job of mowing if you keep up and don’t let the grass get too tall. I wish it had a side discharge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We have had this mower all summer so I will... We have had this mower all summer so I will tell you the good and the bad. First the good. The lasting power of the battery is great. I do not use the self propelled function so I can mow the whole yard (about 1/2 acre) on one charge. My wife on the other hand uses the self propelled feature so it takes a battery recharge to get the yard finished. Now the bad. There is not enough torque to use the side discharge or recycling functions. The side discharge only shoots out about 6-8 inches. The recycling leaves a lot of cut grass on top of the grass. So if you are wanting a recycling mower, you will be much better off with a gas power mower. One more thing, since the mower was new, I assumed that it had a sharp blade. Was I wrong. Make sure you check the blade before using. You may need to spend a few bucks to get the blade sharpened.I guess one other great feature of this mower is that in the 6 months that we have had it, I have only cut the grass one time. My wife enjoys it so much that she cuts the grass.

I like how light it is, that it is quieter than my old Sears gas mower. The height adjustment is VERY easy. Folding it up is easy, and I can it takes less space than the Sears gas one. The light in the mower is good for when the Fall comes and I have misjudged the twilight's arrival. I mulch and use the middle (#3) height adjustment; I very often get a line of clippings, as well as a thin line of grass that is only partially cut. I have tried both types of blades, keep them sharp and yet I cannot tell the difference between the quality of cut. I have been mowing 3/4 to 1/2 the width I used to with the gas mower, and not using the self propelled lever, thinking it will have more power to mulch better but haven't gotten there yet. I almost don't mind getting a rougher cut so as not to use gasoline for this device. If you don't need to get a mower, I'd wait until the electric ones get better.

I've used this mower for nearly a full season now, and my feelings about it are somewhat lukewarm. I owned a self-propelled gas-powered Toro mower before this, so that's my basis of comparison. For convenience, the EGO mower rates a 10 out of 10. No fussing with gas ... no worries about oil level ... easy starts with no cord pulling. However the performance is lacking - maybe a 6.5 out of 10. The cut is uneven. I would go over an area and look back to see several missed blades of grass. I'm guessing that the battery doesn't generate enough power to spin the blade as quickly as a gas motor can, so the suction is poor. (I can tell it doesn't pick up as much debris and leaves as my Toro did.) This lack of suction causes some grass blades to be missed by the mower blade. Since I have a sizable investment in this machine, and it does a fair job, I'm keeping it, but I'll be thinking twice when the time comes to buy a new mower. I would recommend this mower, but with all of the stipulations I've just mentioned.
