Questions & Answers

Can it be used without the grass catcher?

Asked by: Dale
Yes, it has a mulching plug/insert but it doesn't mulch well at all and it clumps clippings to the left side of the mower leaving a clumpy trail. It doesn't like thick grass.

I just received my lawn mower. It mentions wearing protective glasses and a face shield. Is the face shield necessary?

Asked by: Kath
Many suns ago, I rode big mowers for the county parks department. OSHA ruled then and I was made to wear safety glasses or goggles. Turns out I didn't want to work without them anyway - "my fellow Americans" can be a rather messy inconsiderate lot. To the jerk that wrote about needing Mommy to walk with you holding your hand, while I was with the parks department, I could lift big oil drums full of trash onto a trailer all by my lonesome - no Mommy with me, the parks commission didn't want to pay her anyway. So, from a former "professional", wear those safety glasses or shields. Even with insurance, you pay maybe $500 / eye for surgery to restore them to reasonable function. But as noted elsewhere, your choice, your face, your eyes, OSHA won't come around to your garage making sure you follow their rules.

My grandson's dog chewed the battery charger power cord, now I need a new charger. How do I purchase another. Good thing mowing season is over.
Asked by: Baba
Just buy an outdoor type extension cord, cut out the chewed part of the wire and same way cut out the socket side of the cord. Now just splice cord wires and charger wires using wiring nuts and insulation tape. And make sure you have dog food in the house too :-)

I haven't mowed in years (no lawn) and am looking at getting a mower for a .65 acre lot. I see the battery is supposed to last an hour, and some users are able to mow their lawns within 45 minutes. How will this mower stand up to a lot this size? Thanks!
Asked by: Casey
I have a .33 acre lot and the mower completes it in a single charge. Not sure how much longer it could go. The battery charges relatively fast. In general, very happy with this mower. Light, quite, love not dealing with gas, oil and the headaches associated with combustion engines. Buy an extra battery pack and enjoy.

21 in. 56-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Battery Self Propelled Mower with 7.5Ah Battery and Charger Included is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 2675.

I loved this thing so much, I liked mowing my lawn more because it was kind of cool with some of the features it came with. I really liked the universal deck adjustment, REALLY liked the fold up design as my garage is small. The headlights were a cool feature, just for the sake of having that feature. The bag is too small for my liking, and it doesn't come with a side discharge chute, but I don't really care about that. I also ended up buying string trimmer and 2 blowers from EGO as well. All nice and warranty registered. Machine was purchased last year in April, and was used every ten days or so for 6 months of 2016 and April & May of 2017. Mid mow on my desert sparse and fairly small lawn, early June my beloved thing died flat, no signs of life remaining. I had a good sense of confidence that what ever the matter with the machine, it could be resolved under warranty without too much hassle, but Holy Lord, what a hassle. EGO has a Product Community Board which they use to pay, or somehow compensate people respond to customer concerns and complaints, but it seems to be more of a means of drawing those concerns and complaints into an innocuous message board arena and letting people go to town. (https://community.egopowerplus.com/ego/topics/was-instructed-by-ego-to-take-my-sad-mower-to-home-depot-home-depot-told-me-we-dont-do-anything). It took me 2 trips to HomeDepot with my busted mower before I received acknowledgement that HomeDepot was the place to bring it for warranty repair, in fact, 1 person from EGO called HomeDepot to explain that EGO does move their motor repair through HomeDepot (with a $20 fee to me). This was as much as EGO has been willing to do. They just plainly don't stand behind their own products, and they don't seem to be concerned that people know it, either. I was quoted (By EGO), that I can anticipate a repair delay of 2 - 7 weeks. Others claim to have waited as many as 8 - 10 weeks. EGO believes this is a reasonable demand to place on their paying customers. Be smart, and don't buy this. A lawn mower should have some longevity, and this doesn't. It's expensive, and unsupported. If you buy one, it will break down ... and you will be me. meanwhile my lawn hasn't been mowed in a month. I'm going to have to buy, rent, or beg a neighbor to borrow a lawn mower. Not wanting to wait 2-7 weeks for a mower to be repaired which was just bought last year for light use ... I reached out to EGO who informed me that they are: " ... Happy to Help, but only after I've been waiting for longer than 2-4 weeks, and to be in touch then! :)" Heresay? Nope, check out my attached photo. Blurg. -j

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the hype I bought this mower wanting it to be all they said it is, however it is not. Everytime I mow I have to go back and cut the strips of mow hawked grass that was left behind. Which if you have a ton of extra time on your hands may not be an issue. Do not trust all the good reviews. Read carefully and you will hear people sacrifice a good cut for the conveniencece of a battery powered equipment. You will also hear stuff like "mine didn't cut good on blade height 2 so I switched to 3 and it cuts great" but what if you want to cut on 2? That's the stuff I am talking about. I really hoped it would cut like they said but I want a mower that cuts good on all settings, in all types of grass and at full 21" width without dropping grass clippings.

I wanted promote a lawnmower powered by one easy to use battery, reduce the emissions, noise, and maintenance of my 12- year old gas powered Honda .Bethe neighborhood bell-ringer for a better way to maintain lawns. The pictures that I provided should show of my experience with this machine and why it earned a "would not recommend". First the positives...the "5's" about this Tesla of lawnmowers. Everything about the usage and the human interface is well thought out and executed. The bag is easy to lift off due to a well placed handle. The height adjustment is an easy single action pull/place lever. The headlights...genius, as I often mow after work and the headlights make this possible. The adjustable handle makes it easy to store The battery charged from previous usage to full in just under a half hour. The run time is sufficient to mow my yard - (in my case twice -read on and see pictures). The self propelled feature is easy to master. I lovethat I can tilt over the machine and hose it off after mowing to store it cleanly and neatly in my overcrowed garage.. The electric mower is a quiet serene experience. Gone is the shoulder wrenching pull/start cord! As I said before...a beautifull machine! I could end the review here, and maybe tempt you to go and buy one as I did. The mowing experience is what brings this otherwise excellent machine to its weak point. It flat out does not mow well. I have a suburban residence with a tiny front and side lawn and medium size back yard. Start to finish it takes me 30-45 minutes to mow the entire thing. Its a typical lawn, not too thick and not weedy. It is mosty wet to moist grass as I live in in the PNW and most of my yard is shaded. It drys out in the summer. The pictures I have provided were mostly dry grass. The length varies from 2-5 inches...I mow once per week. This machine, although quiet, does several things poorly. First it does not evenly cut the the mowed grass..kinda bends blades down, doesnt "hoover" them up and clip and bag them from the grass and from the sidewalk edges. The grass clippings get caught in the opening to the bag, consequently requiring frequent stops to clear the opening. End result: freshly mowed lawn, tufts that are uncut, clippings left on the lawn and sidewalk and a general untidy look after all the work. I have resorted to running over the lawn twice to achieve an acceptable result. What a disappointment! IMOthe machine power has the power and does not bog down in tall grass, but the blade speed is too slow, causing insufficient updraft, forcing clipped grass to fly around in front of the blades reducing their cutting effectiveness, and bending over rather than cutting the blades. I have tried slowing my self propelled speed to its slowest setting to compensate. The pictures are taken during and after a "slowest" setting on the mower. This lack of blade speed is also evident when running over cut grass on the side walk to hoover up the clippings, almost no effect. See my pictures judge for yourself. I am considering a return to HD and try a competitive brand. I am convinced that the technology is there for this type of mower. I am not convinced that THIS is the machine.

The only thing that would make EGO even better at this point in my book would be to include 2-4 high-capacity USB output ports on their charger base so that these great high-capacity Li-Ion batteries that I now have (5 of them now) can be used in an emergency/power outage to recharge cell phones, etc. Sitting in in Florida facing down Hurricane Irma and irritated that such great batteries are fully charged but will be of little utility to us if we lose power. I've tried to email the EGO and their parent company with this request.

It made easy work of a quarter acre garden making this routine weekly task effortless. Battery Power is no problem........even with thick grass or slopes in the way. It is more than adequate with a 1 hour charge on tap. It is also so quiet you can barely hear it when used. Cleaning & putting away the Movwer is a slam dunk with little to no space taken-up in the tight & valuable garage real estate. Again, a "sweet" machine that worth a deeper look at if not an outright purchase most folks will be truly satisfied with! Rgds,

Okay!.........I'm a woman almost 85 years old and fed up with expensive landscapers. I just purchased a 21 " Ego self propelled lawn mower and yesterday tried it out. I love it!........I am able to follow along behind as it cleanly cuts my wet grass. If it continues in the same fashion it will be a blessing to my 'old age' and a treasured item...........The ease of starting, quickness of response, power, and speed........all are wonderful. ....No gas and oil........no pulling of starting ropes! It is: independence! Hallelujah!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As good, and powerful, as any gas mower I've used I love this mower. The ONLY reason I give it 4 stars is removal of the battery. It is a huge issue for me to get the battery out of the charger. The battery is heavy, and my hands are very small, so it is difficult for me to get the battery out of the charger. I cannot grip this battery with both hands. This mower does an excellent job cutting the grass. I have one 1/3 of an acre, and because I use the self propelled feature, the battery does not last for the entire yard. Usually, I cut the front yard first, then recharge and cut the backyard. The battery charge time is a little long, but no problem. The self propelled feature is fabulous!

After 24 years of great service from my Honda, it was time to retire that old mower. I was going to buy a new Honda mower, and when I was at Home Depot, I saw the EGO mower. I have always been suspect of electric mowers not having enough torque or battery life. So I pulled out my phone, read some of the reviews here and watch a couple of YouTube videos. In addition, a friend of mine just bought one and she had rave reviews. I bought one, still suspect of it's capabilities. Well, I just mowed my lawn (1/4 acre) for the first time this year and I am very pleased with my EGO lawn mower. As typical of first mowing of the season, there were some slow growth and fast growth patches. Like I did with my old Honda, I just slowed down a bit going through the fast growth patches. The EGO seems to sense this and has something like a "second gear" that provides more power when needed. After mowing, I put the battery back on the charger, and it had more than 25% still remaining. It's light, quiet, and no more dealing with gas and oil. The one handle deck height adjustment is a nice feature. I also bought an EGO string trimmer, and I am just as pleased with that product.
