Questions & Answers

How would this compare to a 5 hp gas blower?

Asked by: Polarisguy
This is one heck of a 'strong willed' blower ;-). It cuts thru the foot high snow pile like a sharp scissor with little or any effort at all. Dependable, quiet, effective, easy maintenance. Blows the snow further out to the sides with ease. Utmost happy with it. 5 hp gas blower would not do any better plus this little guy has no fumes or upkeep needed. Just change the blades when the time comes.

How much assembly is required?
Asked by: NHGUY
We have had this machine plus their lawnmower & several other yard things like blower & hedger. We LOVE them all. The batteries are interchangeable. Both snowblower and lawnmower come with larger batteries that are interchangeable also. All devices are SO much quieter to use. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them all. My husband tells me that there was some assemblage required, but he doesn't recall it being too intense. He is mechanically inclined for sure, but we've had the snowblower for a couple of years. He thinks that it was doable.

Asked by: Laura
We LOVE this snowblower but as far as we can see, the handle doesn’t adjust. You may want to check with EGO.

21 in. 56-Volt Lithium-ion Single-Stage Cordless Electric Snow Blower with (2) 7.5Ah Batteries and Charger Included is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 558.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for urban conditions I've used it a couple of times now, one with very wet, heavy, slushy snow and the second with 10-12 cm of powder. It worked really well with both. It's ideal for urban conditions , where you don't want to annoy the neighbours with a noisy device, nor do you want to shoot all your snow into their driveway if it's right next to yours. The speed control (for the paddles -- the wheels aren't powered) together with a very easily rotated chute means that you can aim the snow pretty accurately while you're on the move, and keep the stream inside your property. If you want to blow it further, it does so with great enthusiasm; just turn the speed up. The build quality is excellent and the battery design intelligent: if you store the batteries for too long at full charge they automatically reduce their charge level to (I think) about a third, which preserves them well. As others have said here, 7.5Ah batteries will clear a lot of snow on a charge, so this machine will be able to deal with quite large areas.

I found this easy to put together (there is only minimal assembly required). I used it for the first time today in about 4" of snow with heavy wet snow underneath. I had no problem with it bogging down and it was easy enough to push. I still had full battery charge after finishing my 2 car driveway and front sidewalk. After the first use, I have to say I love it!

Just used in the Chicago snowstorm. had drift areas on driveway and too 1/2-3/4 width passes. Handed with no problem. Really happy compared to gas model as it is nice and quiet and with the gas/oil mix models, I don't smell like gas exhaust when I am done. For the design, I think there needs to be less edges in the model as maker needs to think of some one wanting to put it back in the gargage and not have a puddle. All the nooks make clean-up difficult compared to the Toro i used to use which has mostly rounded edges(feature 4 stars as room for improvement). Giving Value 4 stars as while I bought the one with 7.5 batteries, the batteries themselves are crazy expensive. Overall very happy with this and the mower, hedge trimmer, and blower I purchased. Like another review I read, I hope they make a shopvac soon as I'd scrap my craftsman and purchase easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great machine! Earned every one of its 5 stars.... Great machine! Earned every one of its 5 stars. Exceeded my expectations. Gets as close, if not closer, than scraping with a shovel. Handled a wet, heavy base. Battery life was amazing. I use to like shoveling, but need to be smarter now. What would take me 30 minutes to an hour, was done in 15 minutes. Able to do neighbors’ driveway and long community sidewalk. The “35 feet” throwing distance may be its weakest point. Still threw the snow adequately, but I would estimate only to 10 to 15 feet at most. Before purchase, read reviews about no power wheels. I found it was best without. Was able to push sideways or down driveway at my pace, light and maneuverable. Just hope the scraper will last, since it gets so good and low, any raised driveway or sidewalk gave it a jolt, but next day just as good.

It was a little harder for me to push than I expected, but we had about 5-6 inches including a heavy, wet slush/ice mixture at the lower levels. Also I'm short and small, but with a little oomph it worked fine and did a great job. Plenty of battery life for a standard neighborhood concrete driveway and sidewalk. As others mentioned it would stop at uneven spots , but a bit of a lift and it kept going fine. Could not use on end of driveway accumulation after the snow plow because of large ice chunks, but didn't really expect to be able to use it for that. Also, contacted EGO customer service today with a question about the charger, and their customer service was great. Would definitely recommend this product if you don't need a heavy duty machine and don't want to mess with gas or corded equipment.

My standard boiler plate is that you should keep in mind what battery tools you invest in. Batteries are expensive and you're really locking yourself into a line, or spending more money than you should. Ego is generally top 1-3 in about every tool category and a sound investment. The tools are better than some 80v tools. Do some research and watch some videos. If you're set on a battery snow blower, this is the one I'd recommend. If you're not, then gas is likely still the better option for bang for your dollars. Important shipping information: Batteries ship separate. They were lost on my shipment and I ended up going 30 days before I had my entire order. I was not happy that there wasn't an attempt to expedite, so be aware if you don't already have batteries, they'll come in a separate shipment. Luckily, it took two months after order for snow to finally appear. TLDR portion: is it better than gas? No. Can it compare? I suspect not. Is it quiet and can I run in the morning while people sleep? Yes. Is it better than a shovel? Yes. MUCH Can a 90lb weakling with strength of 6 (10 being average) push this with ease in 6" wet snow? No but they'll like it better than a shovel. Can an average strength individual or stronger use with ease? Yes. I didn't have any issues. It did my 200 plus foot drive way with 3-4" of snow on (2) 7.5 batteries and had juice left over. (2) 5.0 batteries, the next day with 2-3 3" barely finished before dying so I couldn't clear off my deck. 6" snow, no problem. 10+" could start to be challenging for the machine. Why would you purchase? - You hate gas. You're okay with manual pushing. You have average or better strength. So, the longer portion: Assembly: Very minor. The chute had to be screwed into place and the tool was politely included. First Impression: It's plastic. I don't know how well it will hold up, but that's what a 3 year warranty is for. It feels good for the most part. Other reviews have been mostly positive in this area, except for the scraper. I appreciated the large handles and easy of folding/locking the handle into position. I don't understand why there's a power setting as I wouldn't want anything less than max. Easy to use controls. The power button, pull handle usage is stupid, in my book and a pain in the behind during actual use. I'd rather just hit a button and go. things to be aware of when using: The more snow in the chamber, the better it tosses... probably up to a point. My snow was wet Indiana snow, and when I pushed harder, it threw better and farther. The angle of the chute matters (and doesn't lock well). A 90 degree angle resulted in poor snow throwing. Maxing the angle seemed to supply a good toss distance. Blowing into the wind sucks and will cover you with snow. The scraper wasn't an issue on my drive way except for one part where my car had driven over and it was a little icy. I lifted the front to bypass and it was fine and didn't catch too badly. My photos show how "cleanly" it does. Batteries are heavy, and you'll want to take care when taking out/putting in. The blower gets COVERED with snow and it's best to avoid water/ice/snow in the casing. The batter access panel also didn't want to stay open for me in the snow. When i was playing with it, pre-use, I had no issues, but real world use, less great. I pushed up and down hill with no issues. My wife tried a 6" deep x 2' stretch I'd left for her to check out. She struggled to get it going. She's not a coordinated individual and also not the strongest. She never wants to need to do it. Her positioning and technique made it more work (how she was pushing and not using her weight to assist) She would pick the machine over shoveling though. I would press my hips against the handle to push (I'm tall) and so I wasn't using my arms much. I was concerned about going up hill before I purchased. My 5% grade?, not much of an issue. Power for throwing... pointless switch on the machine. Mine was up all the way, and giving a good push pace is exactly the amount required. I don't know why anyone would do less. So my first pass was 3-4" of snow while it was drier, still a little wet. I used the 7.5 amp batters and got the driveway and my deck with still a green light. The next morning was 2-3" with patches of 6" and my (2) 5amp batteries started flashing red before I finished, but did finish almost everything except I couldn't start my deck, that's when it died. I had about 200-300 linear feet of snow plowing that I accomplished after the red light came on. (3 more passes of the section I was working on). Recommendation? - depends on what you want: I wanted 7.5 batteries for my other ego tools. They're expensive. I needed a snow blower and I won't use gas (gas is likely MUCH more power for cheaper, but requires maintenance and gas) I have a 200' ish driveway and I needed something that could do 6-8" of indiana snow (wetter side) because... I will not shovel that much drive way. So, it works. It's better than shoveling. I cleared my driveway in 30 minutes or less. It's a little messy on the tossing and a little wind will cover you and your machine in snow. 1" or less of snow I'm willing to be it sucks with. It's expensive. But overall, I'm okay with it. I had hoped for more power/throwing, but this was good enough. I give it 4 stars because it's likely the best of it's type on the market, but really it's a product that I think would deserve 3 overall. Gas still has an edge here, but this is a functional tool and if you're dedicated to battery devices, then this is the one to get.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very efficent and effective snow blower This really a very effective and efficient machine for clearing snow. It is very light and easy to manoeuverer, and easy to start obviously. For lighter snow it does a great job, you can move quite quickly up and down the driveway and sidewalks. The batteries are then useable in the lawn mower and leaf blower in the summer months. Overall I am quite impressed. I have a 130 foot laneway that is 35 feet wide at the top and I can do the driveway without having to recharge.
