Questions & Answers

Will this work with my ego trimmer (carbon fiber shaft and power load string)?

Asked by: Tony
No, this attachment is designed for Ego's Power Head which is their multi-head tool.

What is the run time for the different batteries with this attachment (i.e. 2.5Ah vs. 5Ah vs. 7.5Ah)?

Asked by: Brad
So far I have only used a 5.0Ah battery with it and I used it for over an hour and the light on the battery never turned red. I don't think it was far from turning red though because when I put it on the charger there wasn't much charge left.

I had my reservations on this one at first; I mean how can a cordless electric tool power a roto-tiller? And one that connects to what is essentially a string trimmer motor no less?! Well, Ego has once again shown me that my preconceived ideas of what cordless electric tools can do are outdated. Every one of their tools I've used so far has met or exceeded my expectations and the cultivator attachment is no exception. The build quality is great and it performs just as equally. I ran this thing on a single 5.0Ah battery for a good hour plus, finished tilling my small backyard garden and it still had juice to spare. My yard is pretty rocky too and this thing, along with the power head powered right through everything I threw at it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets the job done! This cultivator attachment works great! I`ve tried it in semi-loose soil with minimal weeds and roots, easy to control and handle. (Little on the heavy side, but that just means it`s built tough.) Also worked through some thick sod (grass) to dig it out to plant veggies, while it did take multiple passes to make it down to soil through the grass and roots it did meet and exceed my expectations to get the job done. A great addition to my EGO product line!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, but... Just got this and have tried it out a couple of times. The end is heavy which is good for a cultivator. However, it's not well balanced with regards to the upper part of the power head. Could use a different handle setup. Anyway, it does a good job as a cultivator. Especially when pulling it backwards instead of trying to push it forward. Balance needs to be improved for handling purposes and maybe a set of wheels could be a nice addition.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yet another solid attachment for EGO Good power, 5amh battery lasts a long time on this. I had to take a break before the battery did! Tears into the ground OK, but I wish it was a little heavier so that it would cut into the ground a bit deeper with less effort on my part. I was having to push it down a few times, where I would rather have been holding it up to the desired level.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I own six Ego tools and have been very happy with the performance and value of the whole line. I ... I own six Ego tools and have been very happy with the performance and value of the whole line. I added the tiller attachment this spring to our collection. This is the first Ego item I would say is a poor value for what you pay compared to what you get -- especially at the new May 2019 increased pricing. Out of the box, weight is not bad, and both shaft and housing are solid. The tines are installed and removed simply enough with a cotter pin on each side the axle. The cover guard is very cheap plastic instead of aluminum. There is no additional handle or gripping pad which would help with usage. In use, power transfers well down the shaft, but you will find the tines are poorly designed. They do not interweave enough together and they do not have enough edge or angle to chop well, which makes for a bad combination. If you have any vegetation on the ground it will get wrapped around the axle in between the tines and especially over the center housing, building a mass that prevents tilling down into the the soil. If you have clay or harder dirt, the tines will not grab or chop in -- they bounce off. If you press down on the unit, you can help this defect some (hence, a grippng pad on the shaft should be provided). Another design issue is the central gear housing. The housing is pretty machined aluminum -- strong and light. However, a plate sticks out between the tines on the bottom, that is only exceeded by one inch. Ironically to the top, front or back, the housing is tight and gives the tines 2-3 inches of clearance (which would be great), but on the bottom where you work your dirt there is only one available inch. Now, if you clear your vegetation and pre-work your soil, then the Ego will work that top inch of ground. Other Ego products exceed their competition's capabilities -- not this tiller. Ego has not put the same level of engineering into this product the edger, chainsaws, blowers, hedge and grass trimmers received. It seems rushed to fill a product line gap. It has the power, but that's it. It needs stronger, longer, better designed tines, a less intrusive housing, and better ergonomics. For it's capabilities, this unit would be rated higher if about $60-70 less. At the current cost, it in no way rivals even a small dedicated tiller like a Mantis.

I started digging out some old plants around a bush in preparation for putting in a border and mulch. I put that job on hold until the cultivator came in and finished it in no time.

The overall tool is a little heavy, but the weight is necessary to make the tool dig into the soil better. Very pleased with the cultivator. I, also, own the Ego edger, blower, & hedge trimmers.
