Can someone please tell me the difference between this item, for $99 and the other ego trimmer selling for $129. The only difference I see is that this model has a brushless motor. Is that not better? Why is it $30 cheaper then? Thanks
Asked by: EgoManiac
I agree the HT2410 is the better of the two units in several ways -- yes, including the brushless motor -- and I'm wondering if EGO decided to get more competitive on the price, and/or has somehow streamlined their manufacturing process. But there's something else that I haven't seen a single person mention in all the reviews I've read, professional or amateur. The HT2410 doesn't require as much metal to make the blades. That's because the blade bar is the same length as that of the HT2400, yet the HT2410 can cut branches up to 1 inch thick. So think about it: that means there has to be more space between the blades, and therefore fewer blades on the HT2410. You can actually see the difference when you look at the two side-by-side (and I counted them to be sure). It seems possible that this reduction of material translates to a reduction of cost to the manufacturer. I researched and pondered for hours trying to decide whether a trimmer with less blades would cut as efficiently as one with more blades. Unfortunately I saw nobody talking about this, and "thought experiments" are only worth so much. Until I called EGO a few days ago to question it, their own web page for the 2400 was mistakenly showing "brushless motor" in a graphic, just like the page for the 2410. As I said to the nice agent, I suspect that confused some people besides me. To their credit, it was corrected the very next day, and they have confirmed both here and on the phone that only the 2410 has a brushless motor. Brushless motors may cost less to manufacture, even with the additional electronics needed in such a design. Another possible factor in the $30 price difference. I've spent hours finding every difference I could, from multiple sources, including PDF files of both user manuals. Every significant difference I've discovered has now been mentioned in these answers to this question right here. I hope my efforts can help somebody besides me.

Why isn't this trimmer available through Home Depot without the battery/charger. I already have two chargers and two batteries.
Asked by: Chuck
Well, if you've been in any Home Depot, there are tons of products and shelf space is at a premium. I suspect the answer is limited shelf space. But it's no big deal to order and drive over in a few days to pick it up.

56-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless 24 in. Brushless Hedge Trimmer Kit (210-Watt Charger, 2.5 Ah Battery Included) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 1177.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Very Specific Type of Hedge Trimmer For compact jobs not requiring extension this (dedicated) lightweight tool with a phenomenal ability to cut branches up to ONE INCH THICK! -- is gonna be a lifesaver over its lifetime of use. i.e. yaupon dwarf holly trimming, as well as the lower portions of over 100 podocarpuses to trim monthly, as well as hedge-trimming of (2) hedges comprised of 31 dwarf walter viburnums into precision 2' by 2' hedges totaling 62' in length. This tool is Not going to be for those somewhat difficult to reach hedge areas, as this device has in play what I would refer to as a double-deadman switch; in other words, in order to operate it you must have both hands engaged on two different switches at all times. This is good for safety yet limiting for being able to extend trimmer outward beyond about 2' (extension). Those tasks will require a different tool; perhaps the power head with the longer, articulating hedge trimmer attachment.

I bought this because I also own an EGo 21" lawn mower which I use to mow a fenced in area of my yard around our pool, so I already had a battery and charger to match this unit. I was able to trim every hedge/tree on my property that needed it (enough to fill my entire truck bed with branches and clippings) and was still able to mow my grass twice on one charge of the battery. I severed three extension cords in the past while using my old trimmer and I won't have to worry about that problem ever again. If you are in the market for ANY cordless yard tool, this brand is the way to go. The trimmer is also very powerful and had no problem with larger branches. Being able to sharpen the blades if needed in the future is an added benefit to this unit as well. Having a hole in the tip of the blade for hanging wall storage is great. This also has a nice, hard plastic protective sheath for the blades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Efficient classic tool I bought this tool with no battery, since I already had a 5.0 Ah battery that comes with the EGO mower (acquired 2 years ago). The objective was to replace a Black & Decker tool that needed to be recharge 2 or 3 times to complete the entire trimming job at hand. The EGO 24" Brushless Hedge Trimmer has lived up to my expectation. Good quality trimming and great battery autonomy has ever. Just one observation. The tool has 3 activating buttons. The rear handle requires to first push the button on the top of the handle with the thumb, then squeeze the handle with the rest of the hand to lock the previous button in active position, so you don't have to keep your thumb on the button while operating the tool. After that, you can just squeeze the front handle to activate or deactivate the tool. It's really comfortable for both hands. Maybe to confortable... The back handle being a great way to grab the tool permenantly and it is easy to forget to disengage the back handle to release the initial power up button. It may then result in activating the tool accidentally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ego Brushless Hedge Trimmer I just love my Ego brushless hedge trimmer. It went right on through the hedges like it was butter. Even the 1" parts were no match for it. I have the 5 amp hour battery and was able to trim the front, back and sides on a full battery. Still have plenty of battery power left to trim some bushes on the side of the house. It is a little heavy with that heavy duty battery but well worth it. I have the blower as well and my next purchase will be the lawn mower and another heavy duty battery. Keep up the good work on such great products!! I will be Ego poor, lol. I highly recommend their products. It is so nice not to have a cord to mess with or gas and oil.

I am taking a full star off of this hedge trimmer and I really want to take off 2. Dont get me wrong, the hedge trimmer cuts through my hedges like its butter. It also will cut small limbs with ease as well. I want to know who the genius is that decided to put 2 safety features on it. I understand having to push the button to start it, but why the second switch in the handlebars? I have hedges that require me to one hand it over the top of it to get to the middle. Sure enough, you let go of the handlebar and that dang thing just stops. This is one time that black and decker out did you. I have had b&ds 20v and 40v hedge trimmers for years and they work just fine. Never had a single issue but I been slowly converting all my tools over to the ego brand and now, frankly, I almost wish I hadnt bought the hedge trimmer simply because of that stupid second switch that does not need to be there. Again, it cuts great, lasted through about 2 hours of trimming various things without recharge. But, that second safety switch has got to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another quality product from EGO... I've owned an EGO lawn mower for more than two years and have been thoroughly pleased with it. My son, daughter, and two neighbors have all purchased the same mower after seeing it in action. Some months after buying the mower, I purchased a Ryobi hedge trimmer. I had been happy with that also until the plastic body fractured near the point of handle attachment. After my experience with the mower, I decided it was well worth paying a modest premium for EGO quality. It's also a much safer design. With both front and rear safety switches, it's virtually impossible to start the cutting action unintentionally (as I had actually done a few times with the Ryobi). Moreover, I find that the two inch longer blade makes a surprising difference. I really appreciate not having to bring out the step ladder to reach some areas.

This is only my second hedger in this class (battery-powered), first was a Kobalt hedger. Of the two, the Ego is better. They both sound identical and feel about the same but I think the difference is the spacing of the teeth. Kobalt is 3/4" and Ego is 1" (wider is better). Additionally, the Ego's forward handle is innovative. The green part of the black, round handle is one big floating-trigger. This is very useful cause it allows you to turn the hedger 90 degrees clockwise/counterclockwise without having to twist your wrist. Last, I've used a Echo gas powered hedger and it was, by far, superior to the battery powered, but is also more than 2x the price. So, don't expect battery powered or the corded powered hedgers to compare to the gas. The gas powered (Echo) is on a whole new level.
