do the windows open?

Asked by: Buddy
Thank you for your inquiry. The EMCO 300 Series Colonial Triple-Track Storm Door has two ventilating windows for anytime ventilation. You do not need to take out the windows to open it and you can move it to different spaces to get different amounts of air flow. You may visit the nearest Home Depot store in your area to check the display doors. - Noel

36 in. x 78 in. 300 Series White Universal Triple-Track Aluminum Storm Door with Brass Hardware is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 535.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Second door, same issues This is the second time I purchased this same door. Both times this door rotted from the inside out. The first time I tried a warranty claim, but was turned down because the labeling inside the door had come off. I bought the second door hoping the design had change. It didn't and it was the exact same door. I bought the second door 6 years ago and it's doing the same thing....rotting from the inside out. I decided not to even try a warranty claim (which isn't very good). I went with another door that was designed and built better from a different store. This door MIGHT be ok if it's not expose to the weather. However, what storm door isn't exposed to some type of weather. I would not recommend this door to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Door. Be careful of needed drill bits. I thought this was easy to install. I'm not a great handyman, but I can read instructions and it all seemed to make sense. (However, I also read the instruction about 10 times through before I did anything to make sure I completely understood. Others may get it on the first time.) There's a video on Youtube about installing these doors. Helpful. I live in the SF bay area, so this door was good. I'm not sure how it would do in heavy weather areas. Buyer should read instructions in the store before going home and check about the drill bit sizes needed. You can go with more standard but smaller bits but you will need to some routing with a smaller bit. Or just buy the two sizes required.

The door gets daily use, at least 5 times per day. The fit is still perfect and the door emits a very satisfying gasp each time it is pulled open. My wife and I like this model so much, we are having another put it the backdoor for cross ventilation. We live in Quechee, Vt. and the weather, year round, gets your attention. No problems with this door.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective Door I purchased an EMCO door with a doggy door. When I received it, there were dents in the metal frame. Also, the screen does not lock when it is all the way down. I have contacted EMCO several times, but they keep saying they have to wait for the Warranty Dept. to respond within 10 days. !0 days have come and gone and still no response. It came defective and they will not do anything about it. The serial number was all smudged and that is what they want. It is hard to give them the serial number when you can't read it. I will fix the screen myself so it will lock properly. Since they won't even replace or fix their errors, I suppose the warranty doesn't have any value to it anyway. I will never purchase an EMCO door again.

I'm hoping this door doesn't "explode" due to moisture. Possibly the mdf or whatever fill material being used is not weather ready. I have my receipt for returning.

I used a 1/2" drill bit, them just enlarged the outside door hole with a rasp for the handle to rest against the door.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Purchases Ever I am about to receive the fourth door under warranty. The three previous doors have all rotted, in the same manner, from the inside out as other reviewers have mentioned. There is an obvious design flaw or manufacturing defect associated with this door since the door fails in the same way almost exactly three years from installation. When I asked the EMCO representative via telephone whether this problem has been noted the rep simply states that the door may be replaced (if approved) under warranty and there is no record of a continuing problem with this door.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent door for 1 year until warranty expires We bought two of these doors a year and a few months ago. The back door never seemed to latch properly (installed by professional contractor, not me) and the other day i couldnt get out the door! Turning the handle did nothing, so we had to pry the door open and noticed that there is a pin on a spring that transfers the turning of the handle to the latch. This pin broke. Anderson/Emco said the door is in warranty still, but the hardware is not. Huh? So I can buy a hardware kit for $60 or a new door. I think i will be going Pella. Oh, and the second door seems like it is about to break now too. Great!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hasn't been right from day one We had this storm door put in to replace an older one when we had the exterior door replaced. It was warm at the time, but when it got cold, a LOT of cold air was getting through. If I put the outer pane up, there was about a 1/4" gap at the top (top right), and if I put the outer pane down, water would run into the area where the upper pane "underlapped" the lower one (top left). Finally I decided to re-do the slots so the outer pane could be put all the way up (bottom right), and there's still a gap where the panes meet (bottom left.) How a company like Andersen can produce such a poor quality product is nothing short of alarming. What a mistake!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not recommend Installed three of these on my house. Two that were exposed to the weather, the other being on a large covered porch, soaked up water and corroded from the inside within a few years. Although the warranty paid to replace them, it was a hassle to have to pay up front for Home Depot to order a replacement slab and then have to argue to get a credit when the door came in. If the company simply sealed the top and bottoms the exposed interior would not soak up water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gorgeous at first, lasted less than a year! I have had the 32 inch version of this door for three years, and it has been the worst home purchase of my life. I had to order a special length, naturally costing more for a custom order. Within one year the door had started to absorb water into its cheap fiberboard core, I suspect from a defect when the company did the "custom order." I had it installed by a contractor whom I've used many times without problems, and who had installed my front door without incident, so this was not DIY-er error! The aluminum skin started to corrode and bubble away, revealing the swollen and sodden fiberboard within. When I attempted to make a warranty claim, and had to submit the serial number, I was horrified to find out that Emco had cut through the label with the serial number on it! Naturally, no warranty coverage was honored, so I feel completely cheated by Emco. Because of the rotted-out core, the closer pulled away from the door, so we ended up removing the door and getting rid of it. To be fair, I fell in love with the colonial design, and the color choices available. It was a beautiful door during its short lifetime, and the rollup screen was a nice feature. But do yourself a favor: Steer clear from anything made of fiberboard that may come in contact with weather, which, naturally, a storm door does! Home Depot ought to post a sign next to this one--"caveat emptor!"

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good screen & storm door for the money This door allows you to have a screen door with sliding storm windows in one unit. We wanted a screen door but have a large dog that we feared would break right through the skinny screen doors we looked at. This door is solid, nicely built, fairly easy to install (read ALL the directions and measure twice, cut once) and is really nice looking! Installation took me some time since I had no one to help. The instructions could have a few more photos since some of it is not intuitve, but is it a nice door with a fine finish. I would recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Poor Quality This door was purchased in 2012. Within a year, the door started disintegrating. My warranty claim was approved, but I am still waiting for a resolution. Poor quality materials do not stand up to normal weather conditions without literally turning to dust. These pictures are of the inside of the door! I will never spend my money on another product of theirs.
