Questions & Answers

Can these grow in zone 8

Asked by: mike
I looked on the EncoreAzalea;com website. It lists that the autumn coral does grow in zones 7-9 of their key. Don't know if you're looking at the Sunset Hardiness Zone.

When I pull up my old Barbary bushes what should I do to soil to grow encore azalea?

Asked by: Oaklady
Make sure you have removed all barbary material and the plant the Encore Azalea. Dig a hole 6-8 inches deep and fill it with water. If the hole drains within a few hours, you have good drainage. If the water is still standing 12 hours later, improve the drainage in your bed. You may have to take corrective action, perhaps by establishing a raised bed. A soil sample is always a good idea. Azaleas are acid-loving plants, so optimum PH levels in the soil should be between 5.5 and 6.5.

How large do Azelias grow?

I'm planting a new garden & would like t add some azelias. How tall & wide will they grow? What zones do they grow in & do I cut them back in fall?
Asked by: Larry
The Encore Azalea Autumn Coral grow to be 2.5 ft tall and 3 ft wide. They grow well in USDA zones 7-9 and we recommend pruning after the spring bloom cycle to maximize your bud set for seasons to come, but with the controlled growth habit of this Encore Azalea your need for trimming should be limited. If you have a small number of tall shoots you can just trim them back inside the body of the plant
