This model, rated for 800 lbs, can't be separated into two halves: https://www.ezaccess.com/residential/portable-ramps/suitcase-singlefold-ramp#show They have another type, also 800 lbs rated, which can, but is only available in sizes up to 6 feet: https://www.ezaccess.com/residential/portable-ramps/suitcase-singlefold-as-ramp# - and is slightly thinner at 29.5 inches.

The ramp is 4 feet from end to end. The structural part is 39 inches, with a 3 inch transition at the top, and a six inch transition at the bottom.

How does the ramp stay in place? Does it grip to the top step somehow?

It stays in place by weight and angle. There's no special grips. Ours is used on concrete porch into the front door entry. It's very stable, doesn't slide or move at all, especially with an occupied wheelchair going up or down it. This is a very durable product.

What is the weight limit on these ramps. My husband is a big guy, 340 lbs.

It has a weight limit of 800 lbs.

No additional parts necessary. Do not use this for a three step application. The slope would be much too steep. Try a six foot ramp, at least, 10 feet would be better. Not sure how you would provide a hand rail, as these are folding PORTABLE ramps... they fold in the middle, and are equipped with a carrying handle to facilitate moving them around.
