A:Â A typical bargain that on e gets what the pay for. The handle is a very porous, light soft wood that is barely sanded. Certainly not ash. Throwaway quality.

A:Â I don't know. I don't think there's any way to tell. It's hard to beat the price. And it has no plastic parts, which is why I chose it.

For the price and for the occasional home yard user, shovel is fine. Would not recommend for daily commercial work. Had to use P220 to improve handle feel.

Handle Broke with little effort
I give it 2 stars instead of 1 because its cheap, but the handle broke without a ton of effort, snapped like a twig.

I recently sold all my shovels (Ames, etc.) at my yard sale, yet needed a shovel to plant some bushes (see pics) for the house sale.
I found this el-cheapo shovel (made in China) alongside the US made Ames and others. As I was only going to dig 4 or 5 holes and then be done with the shovel, I bought this Chinese made one. I was pleasantly surprised that the handle didn't break or the metal bend. So, like buying a Chinese tool at Harbor Freight for a one time job, these shovels are perfectly suited for the homeowner.
