Horrible Color
Scotts used to be known for quality. The mulch they sell is anything but quality. The red isn't even red, more like a brow color with a slight tint of red. You can see from the pictures it's not even close to matching.

Bob, we'e sorry to hear you weren't satisfied with Scotts Earthgro Mulch. Mulches are produced regionally, it's possible you got mulch produced in different plants. This could account for the variation in color. The quality from bag to bag is inconsistent
The quality from one bag of this mulch to the next is inconsistent. And as such, my yard looks like a weird patchwork of color and texture. Do not buy this mulch. While off-brands have texture and color that is not as good, as least those are consistent from bag to bag

      color gone after rain
This mulch is horrible. I bought 14 bags to put down and it looked great at first. 2 days of rain and its just brown mulch. Black color is gone. So very disappointing

Inconsistent Texture and Quality Bag to Bag
We recently bought 40 bags of this product. About half the bags were the regular hardwood mulch we'd bought in the past. The rest of the bags were either all bark, or all very fine, almost dirt texture. They look pretty bad side by side in a bed.

              Try some other mulch
My husband and I hauled 50 Bags! 50! And the black mulch was disappointing. My front year is big and i wanted to replace wood chips with nice black mulch, i always had good experience with Scotts so decided to try the black earthgro out. Disappointing! I replaced one section on Saturday and on Sunday another section. You can tell what I laid out on Saturday was fading fast. Very disappointing, it only took one day to start loosing significant color. In addition, some bags were already dry and brown while others had moldy white stuff all over. 50 bags of waste!!!

                product gone bad
I have been using this product for many years. I have been buying around 40 bags every two to two and a half years. The shape of the chips of wood were so much more attractive than the shredded, stringy character of the competitors product. And because I liked the rich bright brown color. Especially when fresh, the green of the plants popped against that bright brown color. Several weeks ago I bought 20 bags i preparation for spreading after I finished planting. Yesterday I layed down the first 10 bags of mulch and to my dismay, the mulch looked like the dregs of a saw mill, stringy and shredded. Worse, the brown color looked as if it were adulterated with black dye, more black than brown. Very disappointing.

White mold and debris in product
I bought this today and might be the worse product ever.

We hate to hear that you did not enjoy your experience with Earthgro by Scotts Mulch. The mold and fungus that grows on soils and mulch will not harm plants and is safe for people and pets to be around although as always we recommend you use gloves when handling and allow it to dry out on some newspaper outside before using. You can contact us if you would like to continue discussing this or if you want to know about our product guarantee. You can reach us here https://tinyurl.com/y8nvfsca.
                    Wouldn't recommend this mulch
I purchased an entire pallet from my local hardware store. I put down a weed barrier first and then put down the mulch. Several months later I notice weeds and a mold/fungus. Several months later the color started to change along with more weeds and more mold/fungus.

We are sorry that you are disappointed with your purchase of Earthgro Mulch. Fungal spores are a natural part of soils and mulch. Under the correct conditions, spores can develop into fungus or mold. The fungus/mold only becomes a problem if there is an overgrowth. Overgrowth occurs when the mulch is too wet. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please contact us and refer to your review to see what can be done. We can be reached at 888-270-3714.
