Made from forest products, Earthgro Mulch helps conserve soil moisture, moderate soil temperature and prevent weeds naturally by blocking growth and access to sunlight when applied at a 3-in. depth. Dull Color After One Day
I used this Scott’s product for the first time this year, despite it being the more expensive option. Figured I would get what I paid for. Over three days I laid 65 bags and initially I was very pleased and it had a desirable dark black appearance. But I noticed after each day, the previous days laid areas where very dry and the rich black coloring had changed to a dull dried looking blackish/gray color. It has not rained since I put the mulch down, so that’s not the issue. Very disappointed that the new mulch has a black tint very similar to the old mulch that had been in place for over a year.

Very disappointing
I bought the 6 bags of the black mulch last Saturday and spread it the same day. It is no longer black but grey after less than a week. I will never buy this product again and will not recommend it to anyone.

0 stars. Didn't hold color and smells terrible
Put on this mulch yesterday. In black. My husband did it while I was not home. The entire yard smells like manure. It's 90 degrees out, and I can't even be outside. It also turned a grey brown as it's drying, in less than 24 hours.

I just mulched an area of my yard, half with Scott’s and the other half with a different brand (made a quick run to a closer store). The mulch has a pungent odor and attracted hundreds of flies within minutes. Makes this peaceful garden a lot less peaceful…hoping it will resolve itself. If not, I’m not sure how I’ll get rid of all these FLIES!

Wildlife Friendly
My need for this mulch is likely quite different than most other consumers. We bought this mulch for an outdoor enclosure for a wildlife rehabilitation center. It is safe for the birds and keeps weeds at bay. Many grateful robins and cardinals!

Faded within 2 weeks
I bought and spread 50 bags of the black earthgrow mulch 2 weeks ago. It didnt rain within a week of installation and the color already looks like its over a year old. Ive used this mulch every year atleast the past 5 years and ive never had it fade like this before. How to i go about getting my money back since there is a money back guarantee. I still have my receipt and photos of the mulch next to a different brand i got somewhere else that is clearly much more black and hasnt faded.

DO not trust the color listed on the bags of Mulch
We bought three bags and verified they were all the same color, 1 full bag ended up being black and 2 bags ended up being brown. Very disappointed that they did not match.

This can happen on occasion from residual mulch accidentally left in bagging machine from between bagging different colors. After coloring the mulch is set in piles to cure and piles may have been closer than appropriate or piled where there was some mulch left of a different color. If packaging indicates a different color than what is actually in the bag, please let us know.

I am pleased how the product performs.
Last year, first time using EarthGro, did what it described to do. This year I noted some weeds sprouted through the mulch I purchased. I also found construction and miscellaneous debris in two bags. I will continue using EarthGro as it makes my garden look great but better care and inspections need to be made to prevent debris in the bags.

Colors don't match
I wish I read reviews prior to purchasing. I saw this mulch as a top rated bagged mulch, it was probably a paid review. I bought 15 bags Memorial Day weekend, I just guessed at how much we would we need since we just moved to this house. I was 6 bags short and purchased 8 yesterday just to be safe. This new batch seemed completely different than the previous 15 bags. It had much larger chunks, the color was not saturated black at all. You can clearly see how much lighter and basically brown it is. There's was also more mold in these bags.
