The design of the string system is horrible and hard to get strings in properly. The wheel needs to be removed to take out the air filter. Ridiculous design makes it very difficult to use. Highly suggest avoiding this product.

The unit seemed to be well buit, was easy to operate, started easily, BUT, the "ball foot" broke off completely after only 4-5 hours of operation! I was really disappointed with the quality/ design of that part of machine. Returned the unit and will purchase a different brand.

hank you for your feedback. We apologize you had an unfortunate happening with the string trimmer. Not sure what has actually broken, but, if it was a manufacturer defect, the part would have been replaced at no charge and if it is a part that failed and is difficult to replace or there is no repair center within a reasonable distance, sometimes the entire machine is replaced. If it was not a defect and broke due to either misuse or an accident, depending on the situation, it may still have been covered. It is always a good idea to contact Customer Service to obtain more information and see what options you have and they are always ready and happy to help. We hope you reconsider and trust our brand as it truly is one of the best brands out on the market and has a 5 year Warranty. If you do purchase another Earthquake trimmer and need any type of assistance, please contact customer service as soon as the issue arises. Thank you, have a good day! Ardiasm
Would never purchase again
This is my first walk behind trimmer mower. Previously, I had only used an Electric Toro Trimmer (lasted 14 years and is still going strong for a friend of mine). Moved from a townhouse to a large acreage and didn't want to haul a handheld gas trimmer around. Well, that little bit of convenience comes at a price, not just money but even more in lack of flexibility and performance. But that's not my main gripe. I hate changing the oil as there is no way of knowing how much it will take, so you have to give it a little bit, wait, check, add a little more, wait, check until you hopefully get it full, but not too full. Emptying it is even worse. Unless you construct some kind of platform, good luck getting the oil into a pan. There is no oil drain. You have to turn the machine upside down or lay it on its side, whereupon it will drain unto the inside of the right wheel and from there to the ground. And before you do that, you are supposed to disconnect the spark plug. However, none of the manuals show you how. I am pretty sure I know where it is, but so far, I have not been able to disconnect it. Supposed to check and eventually replace it. No idea how I ever will. At first I was pleased that mine came with the standard head for the trimmer line. It's easy to replace the trimmer lines. However, you end up able to use not even half the length. The rest goes in the garbage. So, there is a lot of trimmer line waste. Hate it. BTW, I keep my replacement line under water in a bucket, which makes it last much longer. The weeds get cut much better when approaching them sideways rather than head-on, which makes cutting them rather cumbersome and slow. It's definitely not like walking behind a lawn mower. It's more like a slalom, with lots swinging out and back. The result is inferior to nearly any hand-held trimmer. The only reason it is getting two stars it that so far, it has not broken down, has always started on the first pull, even after not being used for more than 100 days. Can't afford to replace the machine anytime soon, so I have not looked into something better. But there just has to be something better

We are sorry to hear you are having a bad experience with your string mower. When draining the oil, you certainly could use a funnel of some sort to help drain the oil into a pan without making a mess. As for adding oil, as with any other type of machinery or automobile, the only way you know if it's full is to continue to add and re-check it until it shows it is full. For your safety, the instructions state to disconnect the spark plug first. If unsure of how to do this, there are many videos online to help with that. Once you do it, it's a breeze each time after that. In regards to the line, it is a little bit of a waste, however, when working with this type of a line, it is not possible to manage that any will end up wasting some of it. Also, you mentioned you keep your line in a bucket of water. This is actually how you are instructed to keep them as they should be pliable and the way to do that is to keep them wet. This trimmer is used to cut tall weeds and in some cases, you can walk in a straight line, but, mostly you end up going almost side to side to get the best results. You have a very sturdy, dependable, high quality trimmer. We hope you find that once you change the oil and understand how to remove and replace the spark plug that you will learn to enjoy this product. If you have any further questions or need any assistance, please contact customer service at 800-345-6007 option 1, then option 5 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Central time. Ardiasm

After I purchased this machine and used it 4 or 5 times I had to start spinning the power head by hand to get it to start moving. Other than that it works great.

Awesome machine

I bought this machine last summer and am thrilled with it. It starts first pull and cuts even the tallest, toughest brush including large thistle weeds. It also mulches what it cuts, which I did not expect. What used to take me an hour to cut with my hand held trimmer now takes 10 minutes. Effortless to push and very well balanced. The large wheels are great on my very hilly uneven property. Highly recommend.

Better than hand held gas powered weed eater thats for sure, Only thing it spits clippings at you. Wish I would have got the bigger motor, little under powered.
