What type of gas is best?

I don't see anything that mentions the preferred fuel. Is ethanol-free better for this engine?

BUYER BEWARE? The manufacturer and other sellers have links to a manual that says the tiller should be stored in a "vertical" position with no diagram to explain what that means. IMHO the tiller pictured above is vertical, AKA upright. I congratulate Home Depot for having a link to a manual that shows the correct storage position and the response I got from the manufacturer (cust. srv) was that the engine is sideways so vertical is with the spark plug facing upward. This means the tiller should be rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise and stored on the gas tank (as Home Depot's link aptly demonstrates). My question is 1) After several folks having trouble with the cylinder locking up and damaging the powerhead, why is it that only Home Depot has a correct diagram showing storage?
Asked by: Curlie
The response from Ardisam sounds like they are in denial? In fact, the link on their own website leads to a manual without a diagram and has simply the misleading, imo, phrase "store in a vertical position" . So it seems they have permission to post on their own website but neglect to update it to match the admittedly correct version found via the Home Depot link. Again, buyer beware! I can only hope the manual included with a new mc440 shows the updated info.

Reversible tines?

One of the features listed under product overview is "reversible tines for cultivating or aggressive digging" . I know this may sound crazy, but I have researched many tillers/cultivators recently to consider which one I should buy. What is the feature of the tines that already come on the tiller if it is not to cultivate or dig into the dirt? Why do they need to be reversed?
Asked by: cookingjoe1
I reversed the tines on mine and could not tell much difference. I was only able to run mine for a total of about 4 hours. I went to use it again and the motor is locked up. It was running fine last time i used it.

There is a engine break in period where there will not be full power. It is great because it should work and last longer than most cultivators of this size. I do have a You tube video of un boxing and using the machine. If you want to just see it in action then got to 1.58 minute on the video. https://youtu.be/nwT2UpKdQYg I did not know about the reversing of the tines maybe the work i am doing will be a lot faster. I am trying to level out my backyard but there is a foot in difference, maybe more. Gas is very good, i filled up once and then after around 4 hours there was still a third left. https://youtu.be/nwT2UpKdQYg

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, quiet 4 stroke tiller I've owned 3 of these Earthquake tillers. One two stroke and two 4 strokes. The MC440 is a good cultivator for the price, it works well with my rocky soil (in the Ozarks of Missouri). It is quiet, easy to start and has plenty of power to do a good cultivating job. I've used it to turn up large areas - something it's not really designed to do but can do. Works great between the row crops in keeping weeds out. Due to it's build, it's a bit easier to control than other types of cultivators. The only drawback is getting parts for the motor if needed. They don't seem to sell internal motor parts. Other than that, I think you'd be satisfied with this cultivator.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reliable But Not Much Power I bought this 3 months ago and it works pretty well I guess. I really have not been happy with the torque of the machine though; it is less powerful than the less expensive earthquake 2 stroke model which I also owned. However, to be fair, it does do well on previously tilled loose soil. It is, after all, a little cultivator and not a tiller. Mainly I appreciate the size--it's perfect for me to get between plants and down the rows with it to remove small weeds. Big weeds, however, pose a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great Bought this cultivator in the Spring and have use it frequently. It starts easily and works well. The only problem I have had is with the depth adjustment of the rear wheels. The track seems to clog with dirt or sand and prevents the depth adjusting detent from entering without some effort. Otherwise I have found it to be much superior and quieter than my previous cultivator.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good machine I've had this about 2 months, it's very fast and powerful enough to really churn the dirt. It does not dig in hard soil as well as I'd like and I had a problem with too much compression on startup. I found storing it on its 'nose' fixed this. Admittedly I did not read users manual, this instruction may have been included. Overall a good machine at a great price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and lightweight I bought this because I needed a tiller that I could lift easily. It starts right up and does a good job loosening up grass so i could plant a flower garden, and for mixing in peat moss, sand, and top soil. I was able to till an area 20 ft. x 5 ft. and plant flowers in an afternoon. I love it , good value for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dirt Eater I bought this unit for my wife to use in her garden and it is a gem. She can handle this Puppy easily and she starts it with about 3-4 pulls on the starter rope. It does a Great job on the garden and flower beds. It has a small till footprint and this is needed in the small spaces it is used in. It is made well and not to heavy. It will buck on really hard soil but for the most part it does not if you do not try and make it take a deep bite. This unit is make well and has 4 blades that can be changed around to do different types of operations depending on what you want to do. This one came with a trimming blade and extra wheel for doing trimming and does this well. The 4 stroke motor is strong enough for the size of the unit and has easy controls. I cannot express that this is one really nice Small Tiller and would recommend it to anyone needing this size unit over others on the market. A Super Please Owner and The Wife is Smiling - That is Worth a Million :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy Mini-Cultivator This lightweight mini cultivator has been really handy for me cultivating between narrow rows on my market garden farm. Easy to carry around with one hand often, it starts well and gets an early start on controlling small weeds in my natural, organically grown vegetables.
