We recommend that you contact a licensed HVAC technician to advise if our product can be used to replace a Genteq 40/5 440vac dual run capacitor in a Trane HVAC system.
The 40/5 MFD 440 VAC Round Dual Run Capacitor is made in China.
Single phase. This device essentially contains TWO capacitors - that is why it is called a dual capacitor. The 40 MFD is the big capacitor used to connect to the compressor motor. The small 5 MFD capacitor connects to the fan. This is called a RUN capacitor because it is used once the compressor motor starts. This device will operate with 220V, 370V, or 440V alternating current power. This is what most homes use. Furthermore, this is most likely to be the culprit if a compressor won't run, but you can hear the relays snap to try to start the compressor motor. This dual run capacitor should not be confused with what is called a STARTUP capacitor which is also used on an air conditioner outside a home. A startup capacitor is used when the compressor motor starts up. It normally must have a resistor connected between the two terminals when installed. The compressor motor cannot start if the startup capacitor is bad. If the compressor motor appears to start but won't run, then the DUAL RUN capacitor (being sold here) is probably bad. Note: Both capacitors must be good for a compressor motor to start up and continue to run.
