Does this work with fluorescent lights?

According to the literature that comes with it, yes, it will work with some kinds of flourescent lights. But I have not tried it.

My garage had a 3 way switch setup, while it seemed like a great idea when designing the house, in practice it didn't work so well, when pulling into the garage it's dark even with the light on the door opener. A motion activated sensor is what I needed, but it had to be a 3 way. This switch worked great. Pros: 3-Way capable Works with LED lamps Night Light too! Cons: Large device No wire terminals, have to use wire nuts Wiring can be confusing. The enclosed directions cover wiring for single pole and two configurations of 3-way wiring.Those directions didn't match the decal on the switch referencing yellow wires... there are no yellow wires. Adding to the confusion none of the instructions matched my wiring. I took longer than usual to trace wiring to get it right. The switch itself is large and combined with the wire nuts it takes up a lot of space in the box, but it fit The switch works great and has an adjustable off delay and a night light. Overall this switch looks good and works well.

Works great at detecting movement in garage, even when person is 3 bays away and at any angle to the sensor. Easy to install as well. I did not need to adjust any settings, although the switch appears to have many adjustment options.

It was not only convenient but added an additional element of security to have the garage lights come on when someone walks through the door. This sensor switch would be great for any situation where the lights needed to come on automatically when movement was sensed in the room. It also provides a nightlight on which the brightness level can be adjusted. The switch can be set to turn on the lights only when the ambient light in the room is dim enough should that be desired. The length of time the lights stay on can be set from five minutes to half an hour when the lights turn back off automatically. It can also be used to turn the lights on or off manually. The instructions included with the switch show and describe how to install the switch in a number of different electrical hook up situations and are pretty straightforward. One thing worth noting is the warning not to install the device hot which could damage it. The switch comes with the screws and wire nuts necessary to do the installation for any electrical setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love motion-activated light switches. This one is the nicest one I've owned yet. It can handle ... I love motion-activated light switches. This one is the nicest one I've owned yet. It can handle a 1-way/single-pole or a 3-way/3-pole setup. On top of that it has a built-in dimmer capability. I installed mine in our MBR walk-in closet because we tend to forget to turn off the 80-watt fluorescent ceiling light in there when we leave. This unit will not only turn off the light when we leave but we also no longer have to fumble around looking for the switch when we enter. I want to buy more of these things for my basement. The dimmer feature is not as useful as it may sound. You set the level of dimming with a screwdriver after removing the access panel. It's not intended to be adjustable on the fly. I'm not sure why they bothered to add that feature. One caveat - this unit does not come with a wall plate. It doesn't claim to so that's not a criticism. But just remember that if you're buying one to replace a conventional switch unless it's a modern square-type switch you'll need a square-opening wall plate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product has manual override feature but a bit tricky to use Pro's: Been looking for a motion switch everywhere. This motion switch has the following convenience features that not all other motion switches have: - Manual override : allows to turn on/off manually like a traditional wall switch. This can be activated via the on/off button (instead of another hidden switch under the cover plate). This is very handy when you need to keep the light constantly on/off regardless of motion. This was the main reason I chose this switch over others as many other newer motion switches have dropped the physical auto/on/off switch w/ no similar manual override switch or the switch is hidden under cover plate which makes it impractical to use. - Night light as vacancy mode switch at bedtime. Night light button seems just a decorative feature but the night light can also used as a switch to toggle on/off the vacancy mode at night at bedtime. I prefer the vacancy mode to be available via a visible switch, compared to other switches with hidden switch that requires you to remove the cover plate, which is just impractical, as I'm not going to want to grab a screwdriver every time I want to switch to vacancy mode every night during bedtime (e.g. we want switch in vacancy mode when it's bedtime as we don't want to have auto-on). The fact that having the night light as the vacancy mode switch is better (in my opinion) is that - it's a separate switch other than the ON/OFF switch - I know it's in Vacancy mode when the night light is turned ON. I don't have to open up the cover plate and look at some tiny letters. Con's: - missing 1 min timer Available timer selections are 5/15/30 min only. I really would prefer the 1 min timer option since I won't want to keep the light turned on for so long. In my case, the motion switch was installed in the corridor, and since there were frequent activities close by in the living room, the corridor light was kept on for a long time--until everyone was gone from the living room for at least 5 mins. - Motion sensor Sometimes the sensor has false positive but so far it hasn't happened too often. Will observe for longer time. - requires neutral It requires neutral so I just used the ground as neutral I think (not a good way...). - Price: Price is a bit high but I could not find other switches with the manual on/off option available via a visible switch so I chose this product. Reliability: Haven't used the switch long enough so cannot comment on this. Other notes: 1. The light's behavior seems to be inconsistent, causing some folks to interpret it as defective. For example, when the motion switch is in the auto-on mode and ambient light is dim enough, there's a 50 secs delay before motion detection auto-on is enabled initially. This initial delay caused me to interpret the switch to be defective, since the delay was not present afterward (it'd reappear the next evening the first time the motion detection auto-on was to be enabled again during sunset, or whenever ambient light went from bright to dim again). I finally figured out this reappearing initial delay so I did not need to return this product as 'defective'. Give it a 4 because it's one of the few switches that still has the manual on/off feature and available from a visible button (the ON/OFF button) instead of a hidden button under the cover plate. Also I like using the night light as the Vacancy mode indicator.
