Water heaters with Anti-Freezers have an automatic heating device and will help to avoid freeze damage, but the power must be kept on. Freezing will occur with no power. In very cold areas and when the temperature is under 32°F, or in event of an ice storm, freezing will occur as the heating power limit is exceeded. If these conditions take place, please follow the procedures explained below. When the temperature falls below 32°F, water in your plumbing system or water heater can turn to ice and then expand causing damage to the water heater. This damage is not covered under your manufacturer’s warranty. If these conditions are anticipated, please drain the water heater as follows to help but not guarantee from freezing: 1. Shut off the main gas valve and power 2. Shut off the inlet water valve 3. Open all faucets 4. Take off the drain valve, and allow water to drain for 3 minutes or until the water heater is empty. 5. Making sure all water is out, replace the drain valve, and shut off the faucets.
