I would prefer 'screwed in' type of fittings on each end rather than these push in fittings. I always feel like they are going to start leaking while I am sleeping. I know these push in types are the new thing but they don't feel like they are very good or safe. Still the filter is working but they only need to leak once to cause a LOT of damage.

We live in East Arizona near the Colorado river. We just purchased a new LG 28.9 referidgerator and almost immediately there was a white mineral residue build up on the in door water spout. Keep in mind that the referidgerator comes with a internal filter. So I added the inline 5 year filter and a second filter of charcoal and coconut shell for taste, Problem solved.

I like that this product is still available (vs having one that I have to change every 6 months or so). However, I had a hard time connecting it to the present hookup left by the previous filter I had in place. It took me too many trips to Home Depot and other plumbing supply stores to find parts that would allow the old tubing to connect to the narrow fitting of the new filter. Five new pieces had to be added to get it to fit. Most of the personnel who assisted me were helpful, but in every trip a different recommendation was added until finally with all the attempts, and having tried the last advice from Tom in Hollywood (441 and Pembroke Rd. store), success! It has been only a week since using it. So far so good, but keep my fingers crossed until I can be sure that no leaks will happen from any of those connections.

1500 Gallon or 5-year water filter
My first refrigerator in my current home had an icemaker, but no filter. So I installed an inline carbon sediment filter in the basement for ease of replacement.. Ice always tasted great. I bought a new refrigerator last fall and it came with an internal filter. But, I liked the idea of Pre-filtering the water as before. Since it also dispenses water, I figured the filter will get more use. So I annually replace the inline filter in the basement as usual, and will replace the internal one as well. (redundant, sure, but with all the water scares around the country why chance it?) The OCOpure filter will last 5-years or 1500 gallons. It is designed to reduce sediment and chlorine taste. Which is what I love. My family is worth it and reduces the bottled water bill. If you have a 1/4-inch copper or plastic pipe you can use the quick connect fitting as I do. Ten seconds and you're good to go. If you prefer, it comes with a brass fitting. Be sure to run water through it for a minute or so before connecting the output of the filter to your refrigerator inlet.

This inline refrigerator filter comes completely ready to install. You can either hook it up with the push connections or you can hook it up with compression fittings, both are provided. Hook up was simple using the push connections. I just cut the 1/4 inch water line and slid it int the connections all the way. I then secured the filter onto the back of the fridge and turned the water on. My ice maker still works great and the ice tastes great also.

A solid choice for a water filter
It was time to replace the existing water filter on the refrigerator and this looked very similar to the old filter so I chose it for the replacement. The end fittings are set up to use either compression fittings or push to fit tubing. In my case I needed to use compression on top and the push to fit tubing on the bottom, so it was very handy to have both options. The compression connection on the input end was quick and easy. After flowing some water through the filter into a bucket (to clear out any loose activated carbon particles) I made the connection to the refrigerator tube and turned the water back on. No leaks at either end of the filter and the water to the ice maker and spout in the fridge door flows with sufficient pressure and and tastes good. This is a good choice for a refrigerator filter or for an under sink filter for a drinking water spout.

Filters great but uses push in fittings
Our refrigerator is about eight years old and did not come with a built in water filter for some reason. Possibly because we don't have a water dispenser, just an ice maker but our ice has always tasted a little bit off. It's a kind of chlorine type taste and has always bothered me. I put the in-line with the water supply and it has made a huge difference in our ice. The chlorine taste is finally gone. Since there's only a couple of inches between the back of our refrigerator and the wall I had to get a second water line so I could put the filter on top of the refrigerator. Probably not the correct place to put it but it does make getting access to it easier. For some reason EcoPure used push in fittings instead of threaded fittings. I've had push in fittings fail before so I absolutely do not like them. Make no mistake, even though the picture shows threaded brass fittings, those are just adapters that go into the push in fittings. Since this is visible from the top of my fridge I'm going to leave it be for now and check it often to make sure nothing is leaking. I have to deduct two stars for the push fittings since they are so unreliable. After you install it, it will take two or three batches of ice cubes before the filtered water reaches the ice maker. If you have a water dispenser you should get clean water and ice much quicker. Be sure to flush it for ten minutes to get the charcoal dust out like the instructions recommend. This is rated for five years or 7500 gallons of water which is really impressive. Since ours is only filtering water to make ice I shouldn't have to touch it for a long time. Not happy at all about the push fittings though.

Universal replacement water filter : lasts 5 years ** read fine print
Ecopure EP-INL30 universal replacement water filter will provide you with clearer, cleaner tasting water & ice than without any filter. The packaging shows item has 90 day warranty. This 5-yr rated filter is about twice the size of the standard 6 mo. filter. But, this 5 yr. filter will be collecting, holding all the nasties inside itself for a much longer time, while your supply-water flows past it (for 5+ years?). It may function adequately, but changing smaller (6 mo.) filters more frequently should keep your water clearer and fresher tasting; imo. If you replace the 6 mo. filter 10 times in 5-yrs, the economics favor this "longer lasting" 5-yr. filter. Filter has 1/4" push to connect fittings on both ends and it has adapters for 1/4" screw on (compression) connections for 1/4" supply lines that can be used if you use screw on connections. It's about 14" to 16" long and about 3" diameter, weighs about 1 lb dry. The most challenging task to installing this replacement filter, is pulling your fridge from the wall. The water supply connections should be easy, peazy. Personally, I don't trust push-on connections for water-supply lines, especially when installed in an unseen location, so I would not use this. I had hoped the filter-body had threaded NPT connections. The packaging reports assembly in USA, but lacks data on source of materials or what filter media is used.
