I have been using whole house water filters for 25 years. I have found that the string wound filter works the best for rust and sediment removal. This filter works very well. I usually change the water filters every 1 to 3 months. Depending on how long I have been home. I have a well system for my water supply. Utilizing a filter system is essential to having good quality water. They definitely remove a good amount mineral and sediment. I would recommend it.

The EcoPure Universal Fit String Wound Whole House Water Filter is the filter I use in my whole house filter and I usually change it about every 3 to 5 months. I found these string wound filters last longer than the solid filters. This is a standard size filter that fits most whole house filters. I have a GE GXWH20F filter. This filter is about 10 in. by 2 1/2 in. I have well water and found these filters do a great job of filtering rusty water and sediment. This filter pack comes with 2 filters.

Great filters. I uploaded a couple pictures showing how effective they are. Keep in mind I have city water, but also have a softener to help condition the city water.
Check out the before and after filters. Yuck!
TIP: I always mark on the filter cartridge the date I changed the filter. Using removable tape helps me to keep tabs on when the filter should be changed again.
These are highly recommended filters.

These fit my GE whole house filter perfectly. Our municipal water system products so very good water, but i installed this filter to catch any possible contaminants from a water break or repair, and this filter cartridge should work great for that. It was an exact replacement for the original media, and installed easily. Keep in mind it is not designed to capture microorganisms or to remove chlorine or other chemicals, it is made to remove sand and sediments only.

This is a generic, budget filter that works great for basic filtering. At 10 Microns, you will get most sediment
out of your water, but it will not remove chemicals and such. Also at 10 Microns you will notice a water flow decrease compared to a 20 Micron filter which is standard for Whole House filtering.
Fine sediment filtration: dirt, sand, silt, rust particles and scale particles.
While it says it fits most major brand systems, that depends on your system. If you have a universal whole house filter, then it will fit.
The filter measures about 10" x 2-1/2" so check your existing filters.
In my case, I use a Kem Flow PWFHHW2510 Hot Water Filter High Temperature Housing ( equiv. Watts HD4500HT34). I have sediment coming from my water heaters, so I filter after the heaters to keep sediment from clogging the aerators and valves throughout the house.
These filters work fine and end up turning brown when spent. While it says you can get 3 months out of a filter, I can generally get 6 months.
The equivalent filter is a Culligan CW-F.

This filter, wound, can filter particles down to 10 microns and makes a very good whole house filter cartridge replacement. It cannot remove rust or any chemical particles or aroma. But, if it's just some sand or dirt particles entering the system it'll work fine. There is a drop in the flow compared to the pleated filter that it replaced but that filter is ment for 30 micron particle filtering.
This is a universal fit and easily replaces filters in the whole house and under sink unit. Although I wouldn't use this for the whole house, as it slows down the flow too much, it is perfect for the under sink unit unless that unit needs more than just particle removal in which case I'd recommend one of the filters meant for that task, usually one with some type of carbon element.
Depending upon the condition of the incoming water this unit should last about three months.
