I would say they would be suitable for the living room use however be aware there are several types 1 being the outdoor brighter cold Light But I prefer the warmer of the 2 colors for indoor use.

It may not be screwed in far enough to make electrical contact at the end of the bulb. I had this same problem with one socket in the kitchen ceiling, i.e., the incandescent bulb worked fine, but none of the LED bulbs would work in that socket. I finally gave the LED bulb a little extra twist into the socket and it came on. Apperantly, the LED screw threads were a little tight in that particular socket. When I gave it that little extra twist, it easily screwed the rest of the way into the socket and the light came on.
