This may be a long review, but it is sincere, so read on if the quality of lighting in your home is important to you. There are a lot of LED downlight or recessed light replacement products on the market, and in various sizes. This is the 6 inch version, but Ecosmart also makes a 4 inch version. They also come in various color ratings - this is the daylight version, but there is also a soft white. Daylight bulbs are not for everyone. Many still prefer the nostalgic warmth of incandescent lighting. I became a diehard fan of daylight LEDs when I first started using high quality LED flashlights in my work. I felt I could just SEE stuff much better with an LED flashlight than even with the best halogen flashlights. When high quality LED bulbs for the home began to appear on the market, I was very happy with them, and it became a mission to find the best of them. My wife is a painter who prefers to work at a window for natural daylight because of the very significant color rendition difference between natural light and artificial light. We searched for many years to find a decent light bulb type, and in recent years we have experimented with various LEDs. A few years ago, we discovered that a particular Phillips LED flood light was superior to anything else we had tried. The first time I tried one, she didn't realize what I was messing with. She had her back turned to me, and when that very nice light flooded the room, she turned around with a surprised looked a let out a whoop. Wow! That's it! That's great light, what is that? Fast forward several years to today. We've been using the same Philips LEDs and some Cree LEDs in our household lighting, but the recessed cans in our ceiling were starting to look a little ratty. The surrounding rings in the can had begun to yellow and look ugly. My wife asked if we could replace just the rings. I told her I'd take care of it, knowing that you can now buy several brands of LEDs that replace that ring as well as the bulb. I was at Home Depot debating whether to buy Phillips or Cree, having had very good experience with the quality of light. The Phillips and Cree units were about $16 to $19 apiece, even in multiples, but I was going to buy them instead of these Ecosmarts, even though the Ecosmarts were about $10 or $11 apiece if purchased in this 3-pack. I was disappointed to find that the store did not have enough of them in stock of either brand for me to replace the dozen can lights I wanted to replace. I did not want to mix brands, because of the color variation between brands, even when using top brands. I skeptically picked up 2 3-packs of these Ecosmart LEDs to try out, thinking I would probably take them back to the store to exchange if we were not happy. (You guys know that "if we were not happy" is actually husband-speak for "if my wife was not happy.") When I installed the first 6 Ecosmarts in a conspicuous part of the house, my wife immediately oohed and ahhed over the effect that they had. She was thrilled, and I have to say that I was also pleasantly surprised. The color rendition afforded by these LEDs is obviously superior to the Phillips and Cree LEDS we have been using in our can lights. Our walls are painted a very subtle, creamy color. They looked a little washed out or yellowed under the Phillips and Cree bulbs. They have a glow to them under the Ecosmarts that we only see when we have bright sunlight pouring into the house. The artwork in the area lighted by them has more life and richness, but there does not seem to be any part of the spectrum that drops out. Primary reds, blues, and yellows all look great, and secondary and tertiary colors all have more life. Of course, I had to go right out and buy a bunch more. These LEDs seem brighter at a similar lumens rating, and are better diffused so that there are not bright and dark areas in the kitchen. The light spreads more evenly than with the old LEDs in the cans. The light source is not quite as deeply recessed, so you do see the light source from a great angle than the old LEDs, so that contributes to the improved flood vs. spot light effect. If it has not been apparent since the first or second paragraph of this review, we are really happy with these. I would highly recommend them with a couple of disclaimers: 1 - They are great daylight LEDs - if you like the yellow warmth of incandescent lighting, these not for you. However, if you try them, they might just change your mind... that's up to you. 2 - If you like the atmosphere created by deeply recessed can lights - the way that you cannot see the bulbs unless you are looking straight up, and the way that light falls in pools directly under them, leaving darker areas between them - these are not for you. The light source is not as deeply recessed - but that works great for us. 3 - If you are the kind who doesn't believe something cheaper can be better - if you'll always suspect you should have gone with the more expensive LEDs - you might want to try them side by side before going crazy and buying a ton of them. You know LEDs are more expensive than incandescent bulbs, and you know they last a lot longer. If you gotta be sure, try a few side by side.

I had 6 of these installed in our kitchen and 2 of them have gone out already in less than 2 months. So much for them lasting 31 years like the box says. I had my electrician take a look at the wiring and he said he didn't see any issues with the wiring. I had to buy a box of 3 to replace the first one that went out. A second one has gone out and once the 3rd one goes out I'll be taking them back for a refund and change brands.

Nicely priced, this performs just as well as the Phillips or CREE branded lights that are double the price. The lights can be sized for either 5 inch or 6 inch cans by loosening a screw and moving the metal slider out or in. It also comes with pigtails - so you can choose to use it in an older can with the old screw-type bulb holder or in a modern orange square connector, both will work.

This product is made of plastic instead of metal, so it does not require a ground wire from the can to led unit. I have been a union electrician for almost 40 years, and LED lighting is probably the most "ground breaking" , energy saving, money saving product to come along,

Annoyed I only needed one more light and these only come in 3 packs, I only needed one more, but overall light is good, pretty much plug and play. Sometimes during installation/uninstallation the torsion springs come off of the metal tabs they are mounted on and it is a pain to put back on.

Great dimmable range down to zero [12v area] with NO FLICKER!!! Need to select the right dimmer, some dimmers only operate under a minimum load of 10w - Home Depots’ Lutron C+L dimmers worked great!
