How long do they REALLY last? Forgetting what the box says, I see a lot of reviews complaining about Eco-Smart’s short life. For those who have had them, say, for over a year, what has your longevity experience been with them?
Asked by: DanK5
I can tell you how long they last. I bought a box of four of this EcoSmart 60Watt Equiv LED bulbs. Three of the four bulbs lasted only a month or two. Now, I am on my forth and LAST bulb. When this one goes out next month, I will return the entire box back to Home Depot immediately. These are supposed to last 13 YEARS -- not a couple of weeks. Sadly, I put these on lamp fixtures that require a ladder to reach and I am sick of replacing these. I will NEVER buy the "EcoSmart" bulbs ever again. It is urgent that consumers read my post, so they don't lose money.

Why do the bulb specifications say, "Not suitable for totally enclosed fixtures"? What would happen if I used these bulbs in my standard dome-shaped ceiling light?
Asked by: IMHO
It's because of the heat. As has been mentioned, LEDs don't give off much heat BUT the power supply in the lower part of the bulb generates considerable heat. I tried unscrewing a bulb (100 watt equiv) right after turning it off and could not touch the bulb because of the heat. LEDs cannot use AC power directly from the outlet hence the need for a conversion circuit.
