What does it cost to have this water heater installed?

Asked by James May 8, 2021

Answer

It will mostly depend on whether or not you have a 200 amp service and 3 vacant 220 spaces in your homes main electrical box. Runn ing the electrical And water lines is not expensive but exact cost are impossible to know. I would Get at least 3 estimates from an electrical/plumbing company.

I have tested this EcoSmart ECO 36 system for several years. I can get a consistent flow of hot water to many sources at the same time: • Wash dishes. • Shower 1. • Shower 2. • Shower 3. • Shower 4. It only uses the electrical demands it needs. It has 4 heating elements in a series, and dials up the energy requirements to the immediate demand. Most often, I only use the first heating element to meet demand. I've never needed more than 2 of the 4 heating elements.

I installed this heater and it runs hot for a while with a 1.5 gal. shower head and it goes cold ...

How do u clean the element from lime build up?

Asked by Tracy February 21, 2021
1
Answer

Good day Tracy and thank you for contacting Ecosmart through the Home Depot support. For maintenance flush you can use a water heater flush kit with white vinegar or you may open the heater and remove the heating elements and use white vinegar to remove the lime off from the heating elements and from within the heating chambers. If you contact our Ecosmart customer support at 877-474-6473, we will be able to email you a troubleshoot guide on how to perform the maintenance flush, which will walk you step by step on what to do prior to opening the unit (shutting off power & water) and how to remove the heating elements. Thank you.

What is de-scaling of the tankless hot water tank & how to do it?

Asked by golfman13 February 21, 2021

Good day and thank you for contacting Ecosmart through the Home Depot support. De-scaling is performing maintenance to the heater even if you have a water softener or a water filter prior to the heater. There are two ways of performing maintenance; one is using a flush valve kit with hoses, a small pump, and white vinegar and the second way of performing maintenance is to open up the heater, remove the heating elements, pour white vinegar into the heating chamber and letting the heating elements soak in vinegar. If you contact our customer support at 877-474-6473, we will be able to provide you with a troubleshooting guide on how to perform the de-scaling maintenance and what steps to take prior to the maintenance and after the maintenance. Now, the maintenance scheduling all depends on the hardness of water in your area, but from Ecosmarts standpoint, we recommend at least performing maintenance twice a year or depending on the frequency of the mineralization. Thank you.

This is understandable. The water has to go through the heating unit to get warm, and this may take some time to get to the desired hot water flow. This is the same with a conventional hot water heater tank.

Great tankless electric water heater and the best customer service!
I bought this unit three years ago and it worked great until recently it sprung a leak. So I called customer service and they were amazing! Within an hour I had a new unit on its way via FedEx to my home! Two days later the new unit arrived. The warranty on this is the real deal and that’s what’s very important with these type of wireless tanks. I know they do they do not last as long as your standard hot water tank but that’s the trade-off. You get fast unlimited hot water but it won’t last 20 years. But with this warranty and this great customer service this is the perfect product! Very happy with this purchase and dealing with this company.

Leaks at the element tank.
Careful, mine started leaking and instead of repairing it they say "Oh , you have to disassemble the unit, pull out the elements and soak them in vinegar and replace the o-rings - annually"! And by the way, the manual that comes with it fails to mention that. So go pay a plumber to do all this for you.. They do not stand behind their product.

This is my second one in less than two years. Word to the wise: BE SURE TO SEND THE REGISTRATION CARD IN, otherwise there is NO warranty of any kind. Hoping the second one lasts longer.

Burst after 10 months
This was my sixth unit and it too failed within one year of installation. We’ve gone through six of them due to failures and having to keep with the same model for replacements. Previous replacements had issues with the heating elements or temp sensors going out but this time the heating element separated from its threaded cap. We woke up to find 2 inches of water in our bathroom and closet, along with drywall damage because the heater was located in the attic. After thousands of dollars worth of damage, it wasn’t worth it to exchange this unit for another one of its kind. I instead purchased a Rheem heater, and to my dismay it is identical internally, down to the same exact part numbers. Eco-smart warranty is nonexistent, so don’t plan on the manufacture helping you out. If you have already purchased this unit, it is in your best interest to establish some sort of extended warranty or home appliance warranty, this unit will fail it’s just a matter of when. I would also recommend installing an aluminum drain pan designed for tankless heaters, you can order from Home Depot for about $60.

The best feature of this water heater is the temp control. It is great to take a shower and not have the water go cold on you. The only issue is that it does not have the electrical cable and you do need to open and install the electrical connection. The installation instructions are not clear on how to connect electrical cable. If you do not know how to connect 250VAC and ground, may be in trouble. ,

ECO 18 Consistent failures within the last 10 years
After having the ECO 18, I’ve had consistent failures about every 3 years with minimum usage. The unit is installed inside of a 3/3 townhome with 2 occupants. Lately, it stopped working again, meaning no hot water! This is the third time. To me, it’s too many compared to the conventional and others in the same category. Originally I’ve chosen Eco Smart due to the positive reviews and indication of high quality internal components; however, if the info were true,I should not be having so many failures so often. I also know a coworker with the same model whom also had a failure few months ago inside of their home. This make and product is NOT recommended.
