Cutting the sides of this item will not meet code. Arlington does manufacture a 4 gang box extender, but it would need to be purchased at a regular electrical distributor.

I built out a section of unused space under my inside stairs. I set my electrical box for typical residential thickness drywall 1/2". However I was given some scrap commercial thickness drywall (5/8"). I put the drywall up without thinking of resetting my electrical box. So I found these extenders and they were the perfect solution to the extra length I needed while still keeping all my wires in a safe enclosure. The pack comes with 2 and the price is very reasonable.

We were putting wall board over lathe and Horsehair plaster, circa 1860. With the nailers and the wall board, the 1960's steel electrical boxes were about 1-3/8" recessed. These extenders worked great. Hardest part is trying to get the extended screws to "start" in the recessed box!
