Q:Can the logo be taken off? I hate brands that plaster their name all over everything. My house is not a billboard.

A:Â Thank you for your question on the Elkay SWU1517WH Fireclay 16-7/16" x 18-15/16" x 9-1/16" Single Bowl Undermount Bar Sink. Branding on products is usually a requirement to allow customers/homeowners to know who the manufacturer is for contact purposes. For example, there is always the chance you could move and the new homeowner my want to contact us about finding accessories for the sink. That said, this logo badge is a stick on and could be removed. However, any damage possibly done to the sink during removable would not be covered under the warranty.

Q:You mentioned that it can be installed with the small side on the right, because it is reversible.
What does the decorative side look like? I cannot find any pictures.

Elkay Apron Front Fireclay 33 in Double Bowl Aqua Divide white
I LOVE this sink. It's huge, it's gorgeous, it works perfect for me especially since I'm short. The only thing I would say is just be careful to rinse after any thing acidic like tomato sauce. It's easy to clean, looks and functions beautifully. I've not yet used the cutting board because I need to know how to maintain it sanitarily after use, I'm waiting on that information but otherwise. LOVE IT!

Thank you for your wonderful review, Pmcg! We are so happy to hear how much you love your Elkay farmhouse apron front fireclay kitchen sink. The large bowl size and easy to clean surface our two of our favorite things about this sink as well. For proper cleaning of your cutting board we suggest hand wash with a mild detergent, rinsed thoroughly, and hand dried. Enjoy your Elkay!

We have a very rustic log cabin & spent much time deciding: copper or porcelain. Hubby liked copper, while I grew up with the big white porcelain farmhouse sink with drainboard. I fell in love with this the moment I saw it. I am hoping the fireclay makeup does keep it scratch & stain resistant for decades, as stated. I wasn’t necessarily looking for an undermount sink but I’m so glad we opted for it (& I gave up the drainboard look). I felt it gave us more option choices for countertop. I was shocked at its weight, but hubby made sure it was supported per install guidelines (well even more so, he is a more is better kind of thinker). We went with the band out & it complements the rustic look of the place. It is a deep sink but since we built our own cabinets, we made them taller to make the sink higher, so no back ache occurs while standing at the sink for long periods of time. Install was very straight forward and painless (well other than moving it into place). No different really than any other type of kitchen sink other than accounting for the additional weight. We went with no disposal at install but may be adding soon. Being fireclay, it retains the water's temperature much longer than my old stainless did; hadn’t thought about that at the time but loving it!

We love this new sink, It is an undermount, and very heavy, so I am constructing extra heavy bottom supports to mount it. It is perfect in finish, not a mark or spot anywhere. It is a manmade product. Comes with large drain hole in the bottom, drain fittings have to be purchased separately. The front edge is plain, as are the sides. However you have the option of installing it with the rear side facing out, which has a preformed top edge., which I actually prefer.

The sink is really well built and heavy so I expect it will be very durable. I love that the divider is lower than the sides. It is going to make it easier to wash larger dishes so much easier. I can't wait to use the cutting board that fits nicely on top of the sink. It is going to make cutting vegetables and cleaning up afterwards so much easier. Just cut and push the scraps into the disposal. I am excited to get it installed.

I want to say this is one of the nicest sinks I have ever bought. It is the most expensive one ever but you can see the quality as soon as you start taking it out of the box. The surface is very smooth and shiny except on the bottom face. The cabinets were built to the specs given and it fit in perfect. The piece of wood that it comes with seems to be maybe maple. It looks so good I dont want to use it!

My main complaint is how fragile it is. After our counter tops were installed, a hairline crack appeared in the center front where the divider meets the apron.
I ordered deeper drain and disposal flanges as this seems to be required with this thicker than normal sink.
One advantage to installation is that the bottom corners are relatively square and at almost right angles.
So, seems like a good value but it is much too fragile. I would suggest you not take the risk.
They have a great name but not in fireclay sinks so far.

Wife is thrilled with the sink. It matches the old 40's farmhouse style that she's been asking me to do for our house remodel. Basically it's the looks of the sink that makes wife happy with it. The sink will easily handle all our large cooking utensils like stock pots or casserole dishes. It also seems to be quieter than a stainless steel sink.
The only two negatives I can find with the sink are that 1) it's deep and I'm tall meaning that I have to bend over if I'm washing something in it, but most things will be thrown into the dish washer and 2) the flat bottom makes it somewhat difficult to rinse debris down the drain since it just wants to move from one flat spot to another. The sink we received was not reversible since the "flat" side was not flat. It had a obvious bow that was asymmetrical.
Installation was not too difficult. I simply placed the cabinet upside down on a flat surface with the sink also upside down. This made them level with each other. I then simply set two 2x6s with pocket screw holes in them on the sink and screwed them to the sides. A cleat was then added for extra insurance under the 2x6s. When everything was set right side up I placed the counter top on it. An undersized hole was cut in the top so that I could then use a home made tool to draw a line that gave a 1/4 reveal into the sink.
I made a wooden counter top because that is what the wife wanted. Wood is not really a good choice, but I sealed it well and can cheaply and easily make another if needed. For some reason the camera and lighting (it's 2 AM) is making the wood appear much darker than it is in person. It has more of a copper color to it. The wood to sink joint is made with silicon.

I have the Elkay White Farmhouse Fireclay Double Bowl in my kitchen. One of my favorite things about it, is the way it retains the water's temperature. So, when I was thinking about getting a Laundry Sink (which is next to my kitchen), this was the perfect choice.
I tend to start projects, and later realize I should have changed into work clothes. I end up with stains on nice clothes. To clean them, I usually pretreat with detergent and let them soak, before washing. Most sinks, and washer tubs, the water gets cold quickly. The Fireclay is great for keeping the soaking water warm. It works great.
I got this in Biscuit. The tint is very faint. It is hard to tell the difference between the White. It is not as taupe as my computer portrays it on the website. Ships via freight, packaged well, includes only sink and instructions. On the bottom, it is stamped, 'Made in Italy'.
P.S. it is glazed on all sides; except the bottom (see pics). Looks great as a Stand Alone!

Now that its in place I can tell you even more about this great sink. The size is perfect - I totally love the one large sink, I am regretting a little that I didn't replace my 3 bowl stainless sink in my own kitchen. I just didn't know how I would feel about using a farm house style. By coincidence, that 3 bowl stainless sink is a 36 year old Elkay and looks fabulous in its new quartz setting. (I rub it down with mineral oil and it shines like a brand new sink)
The carpenter and the counter installer disagreed on the method of installation. The carpenter wanted the granite installer to use an arm attachment to hold the sink in place while the adhesive dried and build the support afterwards. Granite guy won the day and they built the support before - as is in the directions from Elkay. My carpenter has seen it done both ways. You can see they had to build new shorter doors for under the sink, they used parts of the old doors to frame out the sink on the sides. I don't know if it counts as reclaimed wood, but they thought it did - they were in good spirits despite having lost the decision to the granite guy.
See why I had to post another review? So you could see the pictures:)
