Questions & Answers

Heat level

How warm, degree-wise perhaps, would a 12×20 room/den get? Coldest room in the house. Could I just light fireplace to heat room instead forced Heat in Chicago winter?
Asked by: Squeeg
Hmm. That's a question with some dependent variables. I feel that my gas logs heat my living room area extremely efficiently. However, I do have a double paned patio door so there isnt a lot of heat loss. My room is about the size of yours, with 10 ft ceilings and open to a stairwell. In the 12 x 12 area just in front of the fireplace, it is perfectly warm even with a glass screen. So if you have good insulation, I think you would be fine if you keep these things in mind: 1. you have to have an open flue with gas logs, even when off [the set asks you to clamp it open to prevent a gas build up], so you lose some heat there. 2. You don't want to keep it on constantly, do you? Only when you are occupying? I think you'll do fine then, as I only turn mine up a little, never as a full flame. I wouldn't leave it on all the time or when not supervised. Don't know if that's what you meant, but just in case :)

For Double-Sided Fireplace?

Is this set suitable for a double-sided fireplace?
Asked by: dhalsim2
I would not recommend it for a double-sided fireplace, as the set-up is intended to be viewed from the front only. The burner pan slopes to the front to provide an angled bed of glowing embers. The grate also has a front and back and the logs themselves stack to be viewed from the front.

Is there a pilot lite or how does the unit fire up?

In other words does the unit have to be manually lit? Many Thanks!
Asked by: Chris
No pilot light, we use a long reach lighter.

Is the gas connection on the left side or the right side?

Asked by: spiderman
There are knockouts on both sides to allow right or left gas line installation.

I ordered it based on good reviews and I was shocked when arrived, I even checked to see if mistakenly they have sent me another one and I found that it is the one I have ordered. It has eight logs four of them very small and I really mean small as a size of Tennis ball, a bag that is filled with what looks like it is earth dirt and they call it " decorative glass"... , missing part. Do not waste your money on it , the description is really deceiving . luckily shipping was free so I did not lose any money when I returned it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value! I have found this to be an excellent product. Since a pilot lit, remote and thermostatically controlled gas log is useless during a power outage, I wanted the basic gas log. This product has fit the bill exactly as I wanted and expected. The set came complete and without damage. I found the install instructions to be comprehensive and easy to understand. We use our log almost every evening here in SD and find it helps create a warm and homey atmosphere. The dual burner generates plenty of heat with the valve at 1/4 open. I'd definitely recommend this unit to any home handy person.

I used only the burn-pan, dual burner-tube, and cinders, preferring to keep our existing (better) log set and grate. I also replaced the kit's (damaged) aluminum gas-line connector with a 10-inch flexible SS line, which simplified the changeover. Manual lighting works well & safely.

I had someone install them but it looked very easy to do. Everything was included in the box that was needed. There are only 7 logs in the 18" set, but it's enough. I can't wait for cooler weather to burn them.
