Yes, it is contaminated with asbestos and asbestos-like fibers.
I BOUGHT THIS WITH THE FIREPLACE LOG INSERT . WHAT IT DOES IT GIVES THE ILLUSION OF AMBERS AND VERY NATURAL . IT LIGHTS UP AND LOOKS REALLY PRETTY. I ONLY USE IT FOR THAT PURPOSE. A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY, ONLY ONE BAG WAS SUFFICIENT.
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Hi Penny in order to achieve that lovely crackling sound, you will need to purchase some Emberglow Crackling Ash Crushed Shale (Internet# 205798317). You would use this in conjunction with the Emberglow Vermiculite. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.
Vermiculite doesn't crackle, it just glows red light log embers. There is another product that does, I cant remember the name of it. But it come in a small plastic bag and has seeds ( as in birdseed) in it. The seeds pop and crackle.
I don't think it crackles. Mine only glows.
Hello Deb and thanks for your question. Yes. Vermiculite is a great medium for propane gas to help disperse the gas more evenly. A layer of it under your fireglass will give you a better flame pattern.
You can get it from 4oz to 4 cubit feet
2 cups
When buying it by itself as an accessory, the website states .7 lbs which is fairly close. It may be closer to 1 lb. The bag is about 8" x 12" but Vermiculite is very lightweight. When it's included in a log set, the bag is slightly smaller.
It came with a kit I purchased. I think it is about 12 oz bag.
I don’t know about whether it would cut down the sound but it certainly is a very good insulation I would think that it would cut down on the sound
No, this is for use with vented gas logs only.
Hello Mario and thanks for your question. That's not really the intended purpose and what we sell it for. I cannot make any claims regarding using vermiculite in any way other than it's intended purpose which is to help distribute the propane gas (flames) in a vented gas log fireplace. My apologies.
Hello and thanks for your question. I do not believe Vermiculite would be a good source for water absorption. Atleast that's not it's intended use.
Yes, In a 5:1 or 6:1 ratio
Hello DIY and thanks for the question. Unfortunately, we are not experts in the pizza ovens so cannot properly answer your question. Our Vermiculite is used as a gas medium to assist in dispersing the flames in a gas log set. Aside from that, we cannot comment on other uses. Our apologies.
I don't see how you could and why you would want it. It is some artificial compound, just made to try to look like ashes. It is used in chimneys that were converted to artificial gas logs. You spread it on top of the articial pieces of look alike charcoal.
