One twin- pack is plenty.

Do you need lighter fluid with this or is it like Matchlight?

Suite yourself, but I NEVER use lighter fluid! Fluid leaves a residual petroleum taste that never quite goes away and if the taste is still there, who knows what else is attaching itself to your food. Get yourself a charcoal chimney. It takes about the same amount of time to light and you'll have better tasting results.

It does not say 100 natural does it have chemical to speed up the fire? Liquid?

No added chemicals. It has a unique design that allows air to circulate better

No. Regular bbq pit with a box

WHY DOES IT SMELL LIKE CREOSOTE .

This briquette is made from anthracite coal with occasional bituminous coal added which does make it smell like chemicals. I just won't touch this stuff.

What is the flavor or scent of the briquets? Is it too strong?

Has anyone used this for low and slow cooking? How did it do?

I tried it yesterday with a pork shoulder. I didn't quite get the mileage I get from my usual B&B briquettes or Char-Logs. Had to add ~10 briquettes twice in an 111-hour smoke and they left more ash than I'm used to seeing but the flavor was great so I don't hesitate to recommend them.

Is this real charcoal hardwood?

Burns hot and fast
Don’t let them fool you. This charcoal burns hot and fast. It does the job for quick cooks. Royal Oaks makes this for HD, they are the second stamps that don’t pass for royal oaks. But 40# for $10 you can’t beat it.

worst briquets ever
You get what you pay for. In this case, you get less. Killed my Fourth of July barbecue. Thanks a lot.

Worst Briquets I've ever bought. Throwing away a full bag because why would I give it away. They take forever to get lit and then die out before the thing is even done. No heat. A horrible horrible product.

First off they don't last as long as Kingsford. I use charcoal briquets in my Pit Barrel cooker and I have for years. The Pit barrel controls the air flow and in turn controls the consumption of the fuel (the Briquets). I was in a pinch and Home depot only had this brand. I was cooking a turkey for my daughters dinner party and everything was going well. They lit great, and had a nice burn. That was till about 2 1/2 hours into the cook. I notice my barrel temp was dropping, so I cranked open the air vent and it still was dropping. I opened the barrel to find the briquets completely burned out. Wow now I'm in trouble, no way to get it cooking again without major headache and a ton longer cook time. So out of the pit barrel it came and into the convention oven to finish cooking. Disaster averted. Here's the deal, I've been using Kingsford in the Pit Barrel for about 3 years and I get a consistent 3 1/2 hours of constant temperature when using them. This brand I got just over 2 hours and they were consistent with that time in 2 different smokes. So these would be great for regular BBQ'n, but for my purpose I'm go'n back for the KING! Kingsford that is.

Good cheap charcoal to start your big smoker!!!!
I bough this two-pack 20lbs bag charcoal today. Just to try I have 6 racks of ribs and a rack of lamb to smoke. And I only use charcoal to get my smoker up to temp fast and hot then use my regular Wood splits to cook with. These started great I’m my opinion and how I start my fire with. Will use again

Yes I highly recommend this product compared to Kingsford brand you get the same results at less price leaves no odor to the food you cook I tend to put some wet apple chips for a smoke flavor. I use about a third of bag to cook 10 pounds of chicken wings; 5 pounds of chicken breast, 5 pounds of beef fajitas, 5 pounds of beef ribs, & 10 stuff jalapeno poppers and still have fir left over. Quick to start, burns hot & last long. I buy extra just to have handy.
