Can this hydrangea take full afternoon sun?

Can this hydrangea take full afternoon sun?
Asked by: Carolyn
Mine get full morning sun. I am in Texas and it get's pretty hot here. My Hydrangea's seem to like full morning sun. I have 3 of them and they are covered in beautiful pink blooms! If it get's really hot where you live I wouldn't plant them in full afternoon sun.

Hello, I live in Zone 4 (NE - Mass.) and, I've had this Endless Summer for @ 8 yrs. Over the last 2 yrs., we've had extreme weather (both Winters and Summers) - very changeable and not seasonal. This Hydrangea only grew the green foliage (but not on the Old wood) and, it only produced 1 or 2 flowers??? In the past, it was a "show-stopper", with many, many beautiful flowers!! I feed it Acidic plant food (monthly) and water when we don't get the rain. I just noticed that it appears to be doing the same thing this Summer --- only growing the green foliage with 1 flower so far and, not on the OLD wood?? Does this mean that it will NEVER produce the way it did before?? I don't usually "prune" it - I just remove the "dead flowers" in the Fall. Please advise me as to what I can do to correct this problem?? Is it the AGE of the plant or does that matter?? Thank you in advance for any advise you can give me. Janet
Asked by: Dancer
That's a very interesting question. Those things are, for a lack of more suitable terminology, temperamental. One of my 3 ESH plants ( hydrangeas) is bushing out while the other two are just starting up from the base. Maybe we should prune the heck out of 'em before spring. Think?

what is the difference between 1, 2, and 3 gallong hydrangeas? Is the 3 gallon a larger/older plant?

what is the difference between 1, 2, and 3 gallong hydrangeas? Is the 3 gallon a larger/older plant?
Asked by: size
Yes, the 3 gallon came looking like the picture. The larger the gallon, the stronger root structure and size of the plant with blooms on!

I purchased several of these about 3 years ago and they have gotten HUGE with LOTS of beautiful blooms. And the blooms last forever...not just a few days. Everyone that comes to my house comments about how beautiful the blooms are. They get morning sun and afternoon shade. I fertilize them with Miracle Grow about twice a year. They are basically maintenance free. Just keep them watered well, especially the first year. The first year I used wire fencing to support the blooms until the stems got sturdy enough.
