For many years an older friend of mine always said his Estwing was the best hammer he ever had. I bought this one a few years ago after using my fathers old wood handled Stanley's (he was a wood shop teacher). Once I bought on I realized my friend was right for many reasons. The hammer feels so much better balanced and the grip with all it's little depressed holes gives you a firm grip & confidence that a wood or plastic handle just can't duplicate. It's also a well designed handle shape, it fits perfectly in the hand, and the "just right" density of the rubber stops a lot of the hammer shock & won't get slippery when it gets wet from sweat. Pulling nails with the claw is easier too because the angled claw area inside is rough and bites the nail compared to other hammers. The sides are nice & flat so when you need to use the side for striking, like installing electrical staples in a confined area, the staples don't go flying. Speaking of striking stuff, the best thing I noticed when using this hammer it that I don't bend nearly as many nails! It's made in the USA! Once my dad tried the Estwing hammer he was impressed & wanted one for himself... My grandfather used to say buy it once, and buy it right. The difference in price of this quality tool that will last a lifetime (maybe two!) compared to a cheaper hammer is only a few bucks...why get the cheap one at all? This is a great all around hammer for pros and DIYers.

Pulls up nails like Liam Neeson takes out bad guys. Unlike Liam, it can be used for any general hammer-type task (it doesn’t just have a specific set of skills).

Bought 1 of these when the $17 represented 3-4 hours pay. Just saw this listed, and mine happens to be nearby. Looks well used, but undamaged. Handle nylon holds up well, not a chip out of it and still supple, 35 years later. If you are considering it, buy it. It may outlive you. Framers don't care for the ringing of the steel by the end of the day, to be fair, but I'm not a framer, and this isn't a framing hammer.
