A: Yes, can use. They are compatible. Brass contains zinc, so there is no problem using both metals together.
A: I have and haven't had any negative results but the oldest is maybe 4 years old. Any metal and water over the years will get corroded. The zinc will break down before the brass and at only a couple bucks I think it's worth it
