"All sinks" is tough to answer... The plumbing industry has done a great job of standardizing drain sizes. For bathroom sinks, the standard is 1 1/4". For kitchen sinks, it is 1 1/2". For other sinks, such as a laundry room sink, most are 1 1/2", but buyer must check to be sure.

Not aware on any sink drain that can overcome lack of an overflow. Just be careful whenever filling the sink that you don't leave it unsupervised! This drain works regardless of whether there is an overflow or not.
