I used for hanging patio light string around the corners of my pergola
I used these safety hooks to hang patio lights on my pergola. It gets pretty windy here at times and I wanted the safety hooks so I don't have to worry about the light strings getting blown off the hooks. I mostly used the 7/8 inch size for hanging at the hole located on top of each light socket, but I used a couple of these larger 1 1/4 inch size safety hooks to hang the thick light cord itself around the pergola corners (see pic). I used the oil-rubbed bronze color so it would blend in with my pergola stain and not be very noticeable. I did not experience any breaking of the screw posts, but I also drilled a small, shallow pilot hole for each hook before inserting. The con for me is that my local Home Depot does not carry this item and I had to order them in.

Bad product
Needed to hang wind chimes I received as a home warming gift. I though this product would do the trick. I wish I would have read the reviews before buying these hooks. As stated in previous reviews, the threaded screws snap right off even when tightening by hand. needless to say, I did not hang my wind chimes and now I have a screw sticking out of my exterior trim.

Weak. Screw broke right off.
Wish I read the reviews before coming home with these. Screwed halfway in and the hook snapped right off the screw. Tried a second one, same result. Waste of time.

2x broke screwing into a pre-drilled board
We bought these yesterday to hang bistro lights. We screwed each one into a different board. The first one broke under the weight of the lights, sheared off right at the end of the threaded shaft. The second one twisted right off in the same way while I was screwing it in. Worthless.

These look good, but the screw breaks off when installing, unless you are VERY careful. It’s good I had plenty of extras.
