Does it have spring to close the valve?

Asked by tim February 4, 2021

It’s simply a rubber flapper that will displace with even a half cup of water from 4” elevation in one direction and will prevent back flow with the same water with less than 4” of head.

I understand that this valve needs a certain amount of pressure on the flap to seal and not leak....

I have approximately 4 feet of pipe above mine, and it was working well up until recently. I noticed that water was coming back through into the sump hole, but that could be due to the age and possible debris in the valve.

If installed vertically, what's the max height of drainpipe on discharge line. Too much pressure ...

I'm guessing that the height is in relation to how strong your sump pump is. I have a 1/2 horse power pump which shoots water vertically approximately 9 feet. With gusto. Hope this helps.

When the float valve turns the pump on, water sprays out of the center of the check valve. Is the discharge pipe blocked or check valve broke?

The check valve is cheap enough to just replace the one you have. Upon replacing you should be able to determine if the pipe is clogged or check valve malfunctioning.

No, you will constantly be getting clogs in the line.

I have the exact same issue and therefore the same question. I was just about to install this, and conducted the same test: I filled the top half with water and sure enough, it drip-drip-dripped out of the bottom. So it does not form a complete seal... Wondering if I also got a defective one. Guess it's a trip back to Home Depot to pick up another.

I use it on pvc pipe above my sup pump in basement.

Can this be attached to a discharge hose or does it need to be attached to a solid pvc pipe?

I connected it to a firm (not soft) discharge hose with no problem.

what is the minimum crack open pressure for this check valve

I estimate the minimum pressure might be 0.206843 bar. All sump pumps should put out better than that pressure. It is designed to be reasonably close to the pump. It doesn’t take much pressure, you can push the flapper easily.

have a loud suction noise from the sump pump when water is almost gone. how do I fix it it's so loud.

You may want to adjust the float. The sound you hear is the pump sucking in some air. To avoid it you need to adjust the float so the pump stops working before it starts sucking air in. Just be advised that when you do it more water will be left in the well and therefore your pump will be running more frequently.

It fit snug around 1.5" PVC pipe. Needed to adjust the clamps a bit for 1.25" pipe. Adjust ALL 4 Clamps, don't rely on the placement as is. After sliding and tightening the clamps into position, there are no leaks or back flow. I'm confident this check valve will extend the life of my new sump pump!

Hello NWAtlanta. Thank you for the 5 Star Review and kind words. You are absolutely correct; one should adjust / tighten all four clamps prior to use. Thanks for the tip! Jackel

Easy to install. Works great! With some good measuring, and this easy to clamp on attachment, I was able to swap out pump that had been working very hard for 6 weeks for a new one, in under 4 minutes, avoiding a wet basement!

Very good quality check valve. Knowing that a certain percentage of DIYers tend not read the instructions, I thought I would point something out: You generally see this check valve pictured in a vertical position but that is not how it should be installed. Instead, this valve needs to be installed in the horizontal position. Also, make sure to observe the fluid flow arrow. The instructions are quite clear.

I don't have drains in my basement floor (old house) so I need a pump for my laundry discharge. My old check-valve started leaking--this one replaced it perfectly and does the job.

Good Check Valve
We have installed this check valve when an additional pump was installed in order to avoid back up into the drain pipe connected the main sump pump. It works great!
