When would this be used as opposed to a cap?

AnswerInside a fitting a fitting instead of end of line. For instance to turn a T fitting into a straight line when the T'd line needs to be abandoned.
I assume this item fits INSIDE the 1/2" copper pipe, is that correct?

AnswersLeanne, it is not pointless. If you have a 3/4" tee that you need to abandon, it is a perfect way to plug the fitting rather than insert a short piece of copper pipe and capping that. Especially if any further extension of the tee will stick out past your finished wall.

Plugs a fitting
This plug fits inside a T fitting or elbow or similar fitting where you would normally solder in a 1/2 inch copper pipe. It was exactly what I needed to plug the plumbing from a sink that I removed Had I put a short bit of pipe and a cap onto the plumbing it would have Protruded past the drywall. This plug fits right inside the fitting and solders in easily
