Questions & Answers

Can this be used in 5 gallon bucket
ByJun 21, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

NO, the minimum basin size for this pump is 18" diameter by 24" depth. The tethered float switch needs sufficient room to swing up and down on its tethered cord without hitting the basin walls and potentially hanging up, which would risk the pump not turning on and/or off correctly. This condition could lead to a flooded basement. The minimum basin size is critical to proper installation and operation! Thanks, Everbilt Customer Service

            Answer This Question

AWhite Thank you for your question. No, this is a sump pump and not designed to pump solids. You will need a pump that passes at minimum a 1/2" solid size and we would recommend a pump that can handle 3/4" solid size for a septic application. Regards, Everbilt Customer Service

                  failed in 8 months
Purchased in Nov 2022, it failed August 2023 and nearly flooded my basement. It was completely corroded and wouldn’t pump, it only hummed. It wasnt clogged, just super corroded. Its just groundwater and it should last longer than that. Took it to the store and they would NOT exchange it, which didnt help me today, i had to purchase a new more expensive unit. Not happy. They should honor the one-year warranty.

Everbilt is a respected and reliable brand in pumps
The Everbilt 1/3 HP 110-volt submersible sump pump is a good choice for replacing or installing a clear water sump pump. The unit requires a minimum 18-inch basin. It has an aluminum motor housing for cool operation and is rated for continuous use and has a built-in overload protection. A floating tether switch integrated into the power supply line provides on/off operation as the water level rises in the basin. A threaded removable adaptor accepts 1 ½ inch or 1 ¼ pipe fitting. The 1/3 HP motor provides plenty of capacity, rated at 38 GPM with 10 feet discharge head and 15 GPM with 20 feet discharge head. Base on the motor unit has drilled hole baffle to provide water input. Top has a built-in handle to raise or lower the pump into position. The unit is backed by a one-year warrant. A reliable pump from a trusted brand.

                    Nice Pump
Nice pump. Small, but should meet the needs of most applications. The pump base is all plastic, which I think is fine for something that is in the water all the time. You would just need to be careful not to bang it into anything and break it. My only complaint is the switch wire came with a very bad kink (see photo) in it - it works, but over time this will be a failure point. I don't think the pump ever should have left the factory like that.

                    Great little pump
I so happy to receive my Everbilt 1/4 HP aluminum sump pump. It has a tether float switch so it turned on and off automatically. The cord is just a little over 8 feet long. The pump weighs about 8 1/2 pounds. The minimum working temperature is 35 degrees and the maximum temperature of 100 degrees. After doing some research I found out it has some pretty good features. This pump is self priming, non clogging & it has a thermal overload switch to protect the motor. The motor housing is made from aluminum to help keep the motor run cooler. This sump pumps up to 2,000 gallons per minute at 10 feet. This will be a great little pump for home emergencies. It comes with a 1 year limited warranty.

I am so happy to receive my Everbilt 1/3 HP aluminum sump pump. It has a tether float switch that turns the pump on and off automatically. This submersible sump pump is built with an aluminum motor housing for efficient motor cooling. This sump pump requires an 18 in. minimum diameter wide sump basin. The motor also has a built with thermal overload protection. This will come in handy during the rainy season. During the rainy season I have a cement vault that get water in it that needs pumped out. It looks like I will need to go to my local Home Depot to get a couple Fittings. I will be prepared and won't have to borrow my friends pump. The pump comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

                    Performs as Advertised
I had a basement water seepage problem and thought I would need this pump. Turns out I was able to completely solve the problem by clearing a perimeter drain that had been covered by lanscapers some years ago. Anyway, I tested the pump for capabilities. Here is what I found. I would probably have done this before tearing out concrete anyway. The test consisted of placing sump pump in a five-gallon bucket and attaching 7 feet of 1-1/4 inch PVC pipe to a 1-1/4 inch PVC male threaded to female slip fitting (see photo). The bucket was filled with water and then the pump plugged into 120 volt power (see photo). Plenty of pumping power and quieter than I expected especially since there was no tank cover. See photo of water from top of PVC pipe. As far as construction, the design seems well done. The PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) Motor starts smoothly but I am not sure about the claim of high efficiency. It should not be a big deal in most applications since you would not think of this as anywhere near a continuous duty motor or one that runs for long cycles. Annual operating cost should be modest compared to appliances. Be sure to follow recommendations for tank size to accommodate the swing action of the float switch. Keep in mind this is for storm water or other relatively clean water and not sewage although it will handle smaller solid particles. Pretty good value. Consider that I am stingy with stars when you view my rating. (Note: 5 stars reserved for exceptional products.)

                    Great pump
Great pump , This pump will work fine when it’s needed. We set it in the garage so when the water level gets up to the top of the cement and to risk it from going into the house, the pump will activate and pump it out into the sink basin. It’s basically a plug and play, and for a quarter hp it should be super efficient. It also has an extra long cord, so it plugged right in the wall outlet.

A good pump - albeit on the small side for horsepower
This pump will give you years of good performance. It is heavy and very well made. The float operates exactly as you expect it and it does not take up a lot of room in the sump hole of your basement or crawl space. With that size, though the trade off is it is only one quarter horse (1/4 HP) power. That may be a bit small for most homes but if you are draining a pool or have a smaller crawl space of water issue then this is perfect for you

                    Well built pump
Very nice little pump. I was worried it is too small but this thing is well built and has a lot more weight than I expected. Comes with 2 output pipe sizes so you have the flexibility of using either one. I prefer these float switches because in my opinion they last longer and rarely fail. But you must have a large enough and deep enough basin to allow the float free swing from the on to off positions. I measured from the off to on positions and it seems to be about 14 or 15 inches. So make sure your water level can swing that much. If not you should go with the Vertical Switch. It has less movement from on/off so the pump will cycle considerable more. I’m impressed with the quality and can’t wait to put it to work.

Archersaway, thank you for your review. This is a great little pump and it works great for your sump basin needs. Yes, the tethered switch does require more water to turn it on so we require a minimum of an 18" diameter basin and it will take approximately 12" of water to turn the pump on, so we recommend that your basin is deep enough. We are glad that you are happy with the build of this pump and can't wait to hear how it works for you. Regards, Everbilt Customer Service
