Product Details

Tee nuts are threaded fasteners with prongs that dig into the material when tightened. They are a good alternative to wood screws where movement and vibrations are a concern. Often used for casters, chairs, beds, and cabinetry.

Q:Has anyone used them in a hardwood application?

      Answer This Question

A:  I have used them and they work great. Just make sure there is enough surrounding wood to keep the prongs from splitting the workpiece.

A:  For the Everbilt 1/4 in.-20 Zinc Plated Tee Nut (4-Pack), the recommended use is with soft wood, plastic, or particle board.

A:  I use them mainly for making jigs with plywood. IMO, Threaded inserts would be better for hardwoods, especially when occasional disassembly is required.

A:  I’d suggest pre drilling to prevent splitting

Q:Will these work in 1/2” drywall?

              Answer This Question

A:  We would not recommend using this to mount a panel. A drywall anchor and a screw would be safe to use for the application.

              by|Mar 16, 2021

A:  If you can get this tee on the inside of the drywall, yes this will work for light loads. I would never install this on the face of drywall, it would not hold well

                by|Mar 12, 2021

A:  No they are for furniture legs.

A:  Good question!... I always just 'find the closest drill' by eye balling these to my drill set. Just measured a couple of these with calipers and I consistently got .292" diameter of the barrel. So it depends on how snug of an initial fit you desire. For soft wood with a snug fit you could use 9/32" (.2812") drill and tap them in with your hammer. If you desire clearance you could use 19/64" (.2969") drill or even a 5/16" (.3125") drill.

These are plated tee nuts and got the job done. Ive used them for several applications, most recently wheel axles on a dump truck toy. Corresponding 1/4" bolts fit into them and I used spacers in the wheels.

Threads were a little loose as compared to the older ones I was replacing, I had to buy longer bolts for the dinning room chairs that I was fixing up and those new bolts were also a little loose in these T nuts. The last time I used T nuts was 30 years ago in a professional sound system speaker enclosure (for the 15" speaker) these T nuts "ears" seemed to bend very easily as I was hitting them & I was very careful as I was banging them in...the density of the plywood could have cause some of the teeth to sink right in and others to have much more resistance. I noticed this when drilling the holes (some easy others hard) & cutting out the seats in 1/2" plywood. These t nuts need an 8mm drill bit, which I had to go to a local hardware store to buy as HD doesn't carry metric drills Why Not???

                        Why Bother ?
I thought that these would join a 2”x2” leg to a plywood top, but they just pull right off the leg. Worthless. I should have just pocket screwed the leg on.
