No I don’t. The ferrules are more than enough. I used the inserts when using poly tubing.

Because lawyers. Seriously though, being lead-free doesn't actually mean 100% lead-free; it means drinking water safe. There can be a minute amount of lead running free in the brass that would be undetectable without smelting and assaying the base material. So, lawyers...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Contrary to what other reviewers have said about using this compression coupling with 1/4" OD cop... Contrary to what other reviewers have said about using this compression coupling with 1/4" OD copper tubing I have had multiple success using it with copper tubing for my swamp cooler - I had to connect multiple 25 ft segments to reach my outdoor spigot. Here is what I do: cut the tubing with a tubing cutter so that you get a clean, even cut. Slip the compression nut on, then a copper compression sleeve. Push the tubing as far into the coupling as you can. Tighten the nut just enough so that compression sleeve seals around the tubing - DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN! Do the same to the other side. Once fully connected, check for leaking. If it leaks do very small (1/16 to 1/8 of a 360 degree rotation) turns to tighten until the leak stops. Over-tightening will do one thing - ensure that it always leaks. If you mess up, you can always remove the sleeve and start with a new one I usually just cut off the end of the tubing. They sell packs of sleeves for around $2. Also, watch some youtube videos on how to properly do compression fittings.

I had some install difficulty after purchasing and as a last resort, went to Home Depot website. Agree with other comments as to (not) using this nut and coupler with .25 inch o.d. copper tubing. I thought I was going crazy trying to slip fit this on the "raw" end of copper tube. I could not slide the nut and preset compression ring past the pipe opening. Heed the advice of others and buy a separate ring, nut, and coupler.

The brass ring that goes around the copper pipe is not shaped properly, and when tightened, does not form a water-tight seal. I bought 5 packets of these to run 1/4 copper pipe from a reverse osmosis system, and I will be returning them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from These do no work with copper ¼" OD tubing. I incrementally torqued these couplings as hard I co... These do no work with copper ¼" OD tubing. I incrementally torqued these couplings as hard I could (to the point the wrench was rounding off the nut) and I could not get them to seal. In fact, the ¼” OD copper tubing would rotate in the ferrule after it was torqued. Upon further inspection the ferrules are not designed like traditional ferrules. These ones are “captured” in the nut and there is an extra ring of brass around the ferrule to maintain the “capturing” feature. This extra ring on the ferrule is preventing it from properly squeezing down on the tube. I’m returning these and getting a traditional set with a loose ferrule.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worked well on plastic I broke the plastic tube coming out of the refrigerator while moving it. This would have required replacing the refrigirator water inlet line (special part difficult installation as other end was deep inside the fridge).. a knowledgable person at home depot suggested this fitting.. i only used half of it and it hooked up to the broken plastic tubing.. after installing it, i was able to connect to the copper line the same way as before.. good fix for less than $5.
