Can it be used to attach casters to 2x6 wood? Are washers also required?

Yes, depending on the weight of the work bench, this could be used to attach a caster plate to 2x6 dimensional lumber. To prevent splitting the wood, make sure to pre-drill the holes with a 3/32” drill bit. For a larger workbench, you may consider using a larger lag screw size (5/16” or 3/8”) to improve its holding strength. A washer would only be necessary if the head of the screw is smaller than the mounting hole in the caster plate.
