Questions & Answers

Are the internal dimensions listed correctly?

I noticed that the internal dimensions are 1 5/8 but the wood poles that are sold are 1 5/16. Yet the white metal caps are listed as 1 5/16. Were these supposed to be 1 5/16?
Asked by: Woogity
No, this 1 5/8" (large) socket is made for the old time oak closet rods that are no longer being made (except specialty lumber stores). Home depot only carries poles that are 1 5/16" (small) or 1 3/8" (medium). When in doubt of which size you need go with the 1 3/8" socket.

This 1 5/8 (large size), is hard to find in the store; it was NOT with all the other pole sockets. They had this one on an end cap at my local HD. I first bought the 1 3/8" socket and it was slightly too small. FYI, All the newer poles take 1 5/16 (small) or 1 3/8 (medium). If you have an old oak closet rod, mine was from the 1950's, then this large one is the size you probably need. You can only find these really thick poles at a specialty lumber place, HD does NOT carry wood poles of this thickness. I say all this to tell you that most likely this socket is too large (wide) for your pole. When in doubt, go with 1 3/8" socket. The other thing I like about this socket is I only need one screw per socket vs other style sockets require 3 screws per socket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality closet pole socket I got this home and noticed a slight crack in the side of the socket.because Home Depot is several miles away, I decided to put it up. By the time the rod got up and clothes were placed on the rod. A few minutes later it broke and fell on the floor. Now I have to go back to get another one, and will now have to take all the clothes back down as well as the pole. What a waste of time for me, and such poor quality. Package says heavy duty holds more weight. What a joke and I don't understand why Home Depot did not notice this on their shelf that it had a crack. I am so frustrated about why there is such poor quality in products today. The sockets look like cheap wood, and I would not recommend this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good quality wood The wood seems good quality to me, but the size is wrong for the 1 1/2" wood closet rods that Home Depot sells. There's too much slack.
