Aluminum is not a good base for magnets, but a self-adhesive magnetic tape could be a solution.

I don't have any 1 1/4 x 1 1/2 angle stock but my 3/4 x 3/4 and my 1 x 1 stock measure 3/4" x 3/4" and 1" x 1" respectively; therefore must assume the stock in question truly measures 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" and the angled sides are, in fact, unequal.
It wont rust or pit, I just used it once more because the one that I have outside my door is perfect!

Yes, very easy to drill by hand or on a press. For best results and to preserve tool life, use a drop or two of cutting oil.
