For this application you would need 4 10 in. x 8 in. Oil-Rubbed Bronze Heavy Duty Shelf Brackets spaced 25.5" apart.

I used 3 of these brackets for a 5 foot long by 12 inches deep by 1 inch thick board. I have many heavy plates and dishes on them. I have 3 shelves all together, and they are very supportive of so much china. The key is to have at least 2 out of 3 or out of 4 in the studs. I wouldn't use molly bolts for all of them.

I used Tapcon screws into a concrete wall to hold a heavy UPS power supply. It worked like a charm. Just make certain the screws will fit through the holes in the bracket.

Can these be used to support an exterior shelf?

This shelf bracket is recommended for indoor use. Exterior use may cause rust and corrosion, thus weakening the bracket over time.

can these be mounted on top of the shelf?

We do not recommend mounting the shelf under the bracket. The long leg should be attached to the wall with the short leg to support a shelf (shelf on top of bracket) will be stronger, working weight limit is 1200 lbs. per pair in 16” apart.

Can this bracket be used with the 8" side under the shelf and the 10" side against the wall?

Yes, the bracket can be used with the 10" side against the wall with the 8" side under the shelf.

Would these be good for 36 to 40 inch window boxes ?

You can install any size of top flat surface (e.g., plywood, mdf, etc.) with the brackets as long as you stay within the weight capacity of the brackets and install the brackets on the stubs. I believe the shelf should have no problem holding your boxes.

I put up three shelves, all 5' by 12" by 1". I used three brackets per shelf. I am using these shelves for plates and ceramic cookware. The ends of the shelves are bending JUST a little. If I was to do it again, I would have used 4 brackets per shelf to avoid the bending on each end, but the brackets are holding up the shelves beautifully considering the weight that is on each of them. I DID make sure that the brackets were drilled into studs.

I purchased these to install sturdy wood shelving in our laundry room. They are attractive and hold a lot of weight. The only thing that I didn’t love was that they didn’t come with hardware. Keep in mind if you’re buying hardware, purchase black screws. I only had silver ones on hand, they will do for now.

Good finish, clean welding, no sharp edges. I like the chrome color, large enough mounting holes and the arched support. Been using this for about a month and no problems so far. Two of these support a hardened plastic surface used as a dumping table for bottles. The impact is supported well.

The shelf brackets worked very well to hold a shelf with a very heavy item. I was very happy with them. Unfortunately, I was led astray by the person at Home Depot about what type of screws would work with it!! Try them out yourself.

These brackets are out of square by nearly 1/4 inch by the end of the 10 inch run. It is truly impossible to get level shelves with these brackets without shiming it... and who wants shims on a brack that does in fact have a very nice design element. It's a shame, I'd love to use it, but I can't due to the need to interface with other shelves that are actually level.

I liked the simple, yet elegant, design of these brackets and bought 2 to use for an old door repurposed into a coat tree. The brackets aren't supporting a ton of weight and they've held up fine for the past month. I wish it had come with screws, but I used my own.
