Questions & Answers

Can this bracket accommodate a 16 inch shelf and still have clearance for hanging?

Asked by: crylenjr
Yes, I did a 14 inch shelf, and as long as it is high enough it shouldn't be a problem.

What Size Pipe will These Brackets Support?

I am doing a shelving project. The rods I intend to use are commercial pipe with either of the following dimensions: 3/4 Pipe -- 1.05 OD .750 ID .113 Wall or 1" Pipe -- 1.315 OD 1.00 ID .133 Wall I am trying to replicate Tube Brass that was 1 1/2" OD, 1.250" ID and .125 Wall. I had thought of using 3/4 Galvanized Pipe, but wondered if it would be too heavy for the brackets. The brackets will be screwed into Hickory supports and then into the wall stud. Your advice is appreciated.
Asked by: JAII
1 5/16" O.D is about as large as it will handle. The pipe they sell that matches these hangers are a perfect fit.

What is the recommended spacing for Brackets?

Asked by: epn53
If you are looking to gain the maximum strength they are rated for which is 1000lbs per pair they recommend every 16" spacing.

I noticed someone answered a question and included the weight ratio at 1000 lbs when mounted every 16 inches. Is this documented somewhere? If so can i get a copy.

Customer Reviews

12.4 in. x 1.05 in. Bronze Shelf and Rod Bracket is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 118.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Strong bracket, weak plastic rod holders! I bought the white version of the heavy duty shelf and rod bracket. The bracket was strong and painted very well. I bought 4 brackets and a heavy duty white 6 foot rod and end pieces. My brother and I installed them with no problems what-so-ever until we came to installing the rods on to the white plastic rod holders. The rods pop into the brackets as advertised but 2 of the brackets broke where they attached to the metal part of the rod bracket. One side of the plastic portion of the 2 rod brackets simply popped off. We managed to get the plastic rod holders stable enough to put on the rods and hang up some clothes but I need replacements for 2 plastic snap-in rod holders. Home Depot told me they do not have any replacement rod holders. I copied down the information of the manufacture from the box that had the shelf and rod bracket but could not find any Closet-Max manufacture on the web. I don't understand why Closet-Max puts such a weak rod bracket on an other wise excellent product!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor quality control The bracket is very sturdy and it looks good. However, quality control is poor. I installed two bars each with three brackets. The first one went up fine. The second bar wouldn't clip into all three brackets at the same time. After double checking to be sure I was level and scratching my head I determined that the clip placement on one bracket was almost a quarter inch off. The brackets are so strong I couldn't bend it true. My wife had to have the bar up right away so I was forced to install the faulty bracket off level. This is noticeable because I used wood strips as ledgers as added support for the shelf. I never would have thought to measure the distance between the top of the bracket and the clip before buying the brackets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from design flaw & quality control issues!!!!! Installed 2 of these for a single closet rod. the vertical position of the closet rod holder was quite different between the two (as another reviewer had mentioned). I was putting them below 20" wire shelving so luckily I'm not using this for a shelf, it wouldn't work if I was. That's a quality control issue. What I'm furious about is that standard closet hangers hit both sides of the plastic clamps!!!!! What's the point if it doesn't even work!!!!! This was for an infants room so I'm actually planning on using infant hangers, they also hit on both sides, AND vertically, so three points of contact (at least on one bracket, not the other, that's back to the quality control issue). Now you THINK that would be enough, but there's still MORE!!! I used 1 1/4" closet rod, and there are NO 1 1/4" end mounts (EVEN ON LINE). I had to make a shim and put it in a 1 3/8". Now I have to waste time and money finding a replacement and pluging a bunch of drywall holes in a freshly painted room, VERY MAD.

CAUTION: BUYER BEWARE: These brackets are excellent, very strong and can hold a lot of weight when used with the matching metal pole.. BUT!!!! Ok now the biggest problem with these brackets is finding ones that actually line up or are not bent or welded out of line with each other. I read a previous review about someone having trouble having them line up so the pole sat in the support arm, so when I went to get these and I needed 4 I was diligent in making sure they were all in align and ended up having to return 2 of them upon further much more closer examination. When these arms don't line up and you level the brackets on your walls and secure them with hardware you are in trouble as there is no slot adjustment of the screw holes. I took these brackets and lined them up and looked at the support arms in every direction and I was a little shocked at how mismatched these brackets are. Obviously you want the top of the bracket in perfect alignment with any other brackets you have to mount so the shelf will be flat and level. It would be extremely frustrating to level the brackets and find that the support arms don't come in contact with the closet pole and there isn't much you can d. Although it is possible to slightly adjust the bracket arm a little left to right but its the up and down position you are not going to change or slightly twisted then you are in real trouble. Also the Closet pole doesn't fit perfectly in the cup part as the weight of the clothes actually help hold it in place because without the clothes if that pole has even the slightest curve to it the pole will keep popping out and the reason for this not fully engulfing the clothes rod is so the hangers can literally slide past each arm, if these cup fingers came up any higher they would impede the free movement of the hanger which do slide past without hitting, so its designed for that reason. I have a real hard time giving these more then 3 stars, if you can get perfect matching brackets then its a 5 star rating but being that I went thru 2 boxes and took the last 4 good brackets that matched each other was a pain so 3 stars it gets because it still does work just took an eye of an eagle to get them aligned.. Look at my photos and you can clearly see how the ends are not in alignment and how this would cause a nightmare once the brackets are secured to wall studs that you can't adjust. I even went to check the other finishes like Chrome, White etc.. and found they were just as bad, so doesn't matter of finish its quality control releasing such mismatched pieces that make these brackets a lot to be desired.. Now that I found 4 perfect brackets and they are mounted perfectly level they are awesome and I plan on using them for another closet, I just know I have some inspection work to do before I just grab 4 brackets only to get home and realize I have to go back..... I recommend these with reservations.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible. Really poorly made. I purchased eight brackets and two steel clothing rod. I'm a contractor, so I know how to install a level shelf. One would expect that all the brackets would be identical, right, ha ha! These are clearly hand – welded, inconsistently produced, and the brackets and Rod support do not line up. Seriously, install three brackets in a row and either your shelf will be level, or your clothing rod will be supported by all three brackets: pick only one, they are 'off' by as much as 1/4". I only wish I could post a photo showing the final result. The Home Depot internal buyer who authorized this item should recall it and pull it out of stock immediately. For the average installer it will result in nothing but a horribly frustrating waste of time.

I can make this work for me, but there is a slight difference in the bend on the rod support. I mounted the brackets on the wall with meticulous attention to exact level alignment, but the rod will not snap into all of the plastic stops because, even though the brackets are all even, the supports are all slightly different. I started to try adjusting the bends in some of the supports, but it is nearly impossible to accomplish with a long run if brackets (10). I ended up just resting the rod in the bend of the supports.
