So this is a cane bolt. Very solid and strong. There are groves on one side of the bolt to make sure it does not fall all the way through (vertical mount) the brackets or out of the holding brackets (horizontal mount) once installed. Installation is simple. Mark location and install. Instructions are plain and simple with a small diagram for both options (vertical and horizontal). All hardware needed is is provided. Simple product - strong and secure. Long screws, high quality brackets and bolt. Tapered end helps line up small measurement mistakes - or if anchoring in the ground it holds position. Note: Have to slide the back bracket over the "L" shaped side for mounting.

This is a very sturdy cane bolt suitable for holding gates in place where security isn't too important. The cane bolt is very well made and strong, but the fasteners would not stand up to very large loads. Installation is very easy requiring only a screwdriver, although a drill to make pilot holes may also be used. I screwed directly into the gate and didn't have an issue. The bottom crimp is large enough that it does not fit through either eye. That may be by design, but it does make the placement of the holders more critical and reduces the amount of drop that can be used. it also means the bolt cannot be removed once installed.

good on swing out crawlspace door project
As part of a crawlspace upgrade in the Adirondacks I had to get some crawlspace doors air sealed. I built door jambs and installed weather-stripping but needed something to put some pressure on the bottom of this door. I used some 1/2" pvc and drove it into the ground to give the bolt something to lock into.

Sturdy, well made, perfect for my needs. All hardware supplied, screws, brackets, and easy to follow instructions. With this type of hardware it sure beats using rocks to hold your gates in place. I just measured where I wanted to install the drop down bolt, drilled start up holes for the screws, applied some WD-40 so the screws would go in without much of a problem, and the bolt was ready to go. A good, solid product that's easy to install. very happy with this product.

EVERBILT 12 IN. ZINC-PLATED CANE BOLT - This item is conveniently packaged and appears to be of high quality. The bolt is solid and the attachment brackets, while of a lighter gauge, seem sufficient. The package came with 4 screws, however, the brackets are drilled for six. I had gotten this to stop a shed door from blowing in the wind while open but was not able to use it as intended because the gap between the bottom of the door and the adjacent patio was greater than the length of the 12 inch bolt to grip adequately.

The king bold 12 inch zinc plated, is ideal for your garden door or any sort of door where you want to make sure that the door does not move. The cane bolt comes with two plates and it’s four screws so you can attach it to an existing door or any existing 2 x 4 or 4 x 4 bracket. The cane bolt is really heavy duty and should take no more than five minutes with a level to make sure it is in place properly.

Many years ago I made a gate prop with a hinge, a short piece of 2X4, and the cable to keep the gate from sagging holds it up. Now I have the EVERBILT 12 IN. ZINC-PLATED CANE BOLT to secure my gate open and if I drill a hole into the concrete walk it will keep it closed. To install, just add the brackets to a vertical board at proper height, turn and drop or lift. This one will last many more years.

We have a gate that has a mind of its own and depending on the wind may stay open, may stay shut of change at will. We added this cane bolt so when we do use this second gate we can be sure the gate doesn’t swing into our truck or trailer. It is easy to install and works great. The holes for the screws are made for a wider gate, usually a wooden one. The gate we have is a metal round tube gate, so we had to drill a couple extra holes and use self-taping screws to attach the brackets to the gate itself. Works great. If you need to tame a wild gate this cane bolt is an easy answer.

We have a gate that does not stay open and if the wind blows it sometimes closes on its own. This cane bolt works great to keep the gate open and you do not have to worry about it closing on your truck or trailer. I did have to drill a couple different positioned holes in order to get it set up so I could mount it on my metal gate. It worked well and I would recommend this cane bolt for any gate or swing style door that needs a way to stay in place.

I have a gate that wants to open and some times close based on the winds at the time. To keep it open I installed this cane bolt. I had to drill a couple extra holes and use some self taping screws as I install it on a metal gate, as you can see in the pictures. It works great and now I do not have to worry about the gate closing on my truck or trailers when I use this gate. Simple technology but works great.
