During these challenging times of COVID-19, I am fortunate to work for a company that is in the essential business of making food. We produce vegetarian frozen entrees, pizzas, burritos, and soups. As part of the Engineering Team for the company, we wanted to honor those that are working at our plants producing meals to feed the world in these trying times. My contribution was to make a plaque with "Amy's Heroes" relief-welded on and needed some sheet metal as the base background. Home Depot was an essential business that was open with the supplies I needed. This sheet metal was the right size and thickness for this project.

This steel sheet useful stock for anyone that needs to make metal parts. Although more difficult to work with than aluminum, wood or plastic, I find that I often use steel where strength and durability is needed, even though it is heavier.
I cut this plate to size with a metal cutting band saw. It can be bent to the shape needed, although care must be taken when making sharp bends not make repeated bends at the same location or the metal will weaken.

Arrived straight and undamaged. There are so many uses for this. Being 16 gauge, it is fairly thick for a steel sheet by today's standards. I could barely cut it with my metal shears even though it is mild steel. At this thickness it is relatively easy to weld but can be formed into shape with a good vice and determined hammering. I used this piece for make replacement BBQ flame spreaders and body patches for my auto restoration projects.
