Q:Our sump pump is very noisy. Does this basin lid reduce the pump sound?

Answer This Question
A: Not really. The lid is there to keep critters out of the sump, and is not thick enough to reduce the noise noticeably.
by|Jun 1, 2020
A: Not really. There are openings in the lid that allow noise to come thru.
by|May 28, 2020
A: It will a little but not much. The lid is more for safety than noise.
by|Jun 3, 2020
A: Yes, but a lot depends on your pump type. A submerged pump will be quieter. The tall sump pump type will still be noisy as the motor is outside the cover.....meaning nothing will change. Stagnate water should be covered anyway. Sump pump hole should always be covered for safety to all.

A: Your sump pump may be loud for a couple of different reasons. I would also look at installing a quiet check on the pump vs the one that is currently on there then go with the lid that is actually for Radon control it is a sealed lid with a clear inspection portal this will give you a much quieter install

A: I honestly don't know. I haven't tried. I do know that the lid is made of a TOUGH material and cutting it by hand is going to be HARD. Good luck.
by|Apr 13, 2020
A: It’s roughly 1/4” thick hard plastic. You could cut it if you are talented with a router or possibility a jig saw.
by|Jan 14, 2023
A: No, you cannot cut the lid to fit.
by|Apr 13, 2020
A: I would imagine you can. The only thing is when the pump comes on its going to allow the hose to flop around so you will need to secure the hose. The main issue I had was if you are burying the container in soil you need to put 40-50# of concrete in the container or the container will pop out like a bobber when there is water...

Fits even if pipes are off the center line
Nicely made for $8! You can’t tell in the photos with the lid on, but my sump pump and back up pump ejector pipes are about 3 inches off the centerline. I thought I was just going to have to cut the center opening or the cover would be off center and not reach the edge. But it’s flexible enough and large enough that it works just fine. Sump well is 18 inches with no bolts, this cover is 21.5 dia, so if it’s a little off-center didn’t matter at all. Only negative: that sticker won’t peel off!

sturdy cover
Easily fits over existing install and pipes, and sturdy to withstand any missteps.
Decided to seal slot opening, but wanted window for visibility: bought clear-vinyl 1.5mm cover, cut 2" hole for pipe and drilled a hole for cord, then slit thru holes to one end, so easily removable.

The nice part about this basin lid is that not only can the ejection pipe protrude up though it, but in a catastrophic water event, water could flow back down through thew slot. I haven't installed the pump yet (coming next week), but here are a few picks of the installation process:

This sump pump lid worked great and was so easy to install. The plastic opens to slip around the pipe or pipes and snaps back together. It seems to be well made and the price was great. Much easier than taking the pipes apart. Would definitely recommend this.

Includes bolts, has slit for installing over existing plumbing
This brand of sump basin is excellent- heavy duty, no flexing/collapsing. the threads in the basin are metal, cast into the basin. This lid includes the screws to mate with that basin. The lid has a slit on one side so that you can install over existing plumbing and electrical without having to disconnect. Lid is rigid enough that it can support your weight once bolted in. (I wouldn't have regular traffic over it, but for an occasional footstep, it's sturdy.) It fits tight onto the basin with nice indexing stubs. Made in USA.

Sump Pump Basin Lid
Lid was recommended by our plumber. The lid was easy to install, opening was large enough to accommodate the cords, and it fit well. This lid satisfied the need for replacement per the home inspection prior to the sale of our home.
