Questions & Answers

Which leg (18" or 16") is intended to be vertical - against wall, and horizontal - supporting shelf? Does it matter?

I plan to do as the previous reviewer did, and use 2' wide 1/2" plywood as shelf surface, supported by the brackets screwed with lag screws into garage wall studs.
Asked by: Kevin
Actually the bracket is designed to mount with the 16" side against the wall. The holes on the 18" side will not accommodate the #14 screw recommended for mounting to the wall. I drilled out the holes to 1/4" on the 18" side and mounted that against the wall using 1/4" lag bolts and a socket wrench. That's much easier than using the recommended screws that have phillips heads. I used 3/4" thick plywood shelves that are 18" wide. So they overhang the 16" side by 2" and work fine.

The studs that I would be drilling into are only 1.5 inches wide. Would I be able to use this bracket? The screw holes look like they're staggered.

Asked by: Clovis
You can use the bracket on standard 2x4" studs, which are actually 1-1/2" wide. Just be careful identifying the stud edges and center the bracket on the stud. The mounting holes will fit, as the holes are just slightly staggered.

does this heavy duty wall mount come with the screws or do I need to order them separately.

using to hold a 19 lb AV receiver
Asked by: Raya
Great question Raya. Unfortunately, these brackets DO require a special screw that does NOT come with. You will need to order them from China. They usually take about 4-6 weeks to arrive. As long as you plan ahead, it should be NO problem. Merry Christmas!

I got these for holding up the wall side of turtle tanks shelf they sat on. I ended up moving the tanks to the floor, so these simply hold less weight now. I had no issues with these at all. the tanks weighed 300 - 400 pounds

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get These. Don't Think Twice I've had these nearly a year now, and zero issues. I'm adding this review now because I need to build another shelf and will be buying the exact same ones, so I figured I'd post a review while I'm here. I had very high expectations for these brackets after holding them in the store and they have not disappointed. I have used them for a fairly important and fairly heavy duty application: holding 4 big monitors, a keyboard/mouse tray, and 2 heavy studio monitor speakers. This gets the monitors off the desk and allows me much more flexibility as I mess around with standing/sit/stand keyboard solutions. I used 1/4" lag bolts instead of screws, and this required the mounting holes to be drilled out just slightly. The piece of wood was an expensive 3' section of 3/4" oak, also from home depot. It's all been rock solid. (I used the same oak as a backing plate for a big TV). In any event, these brackets would certainly hold their advertised weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong Bracket, but here are the real facts: so.....I got some incorrect info from the reviews, so here is the correct info: Firstly, the picture is incorrect the way it displays the hole placement. Two wall mounting holes are close to the top of the bracket. both slightly offset. And there is one hole at the far end of the wall bracket. There is no hole in the center as the photos show. Same with the holes for screwing a wood shelf onto the bracket. Two holes near the 90 degree bend and one in the far end, none in the center. And these brackets are designed to mount with the 16" side against the wall, as the #14 recommended screws do not fit the holes in the 20" side. However, I easily drilled out the smaller holes and made them 1/4" holes, so I could use 1/4" lag bolts (1/4 x 1-1/2") instead of the recommended #14 (1/4 x 1-1/2") Phillips head screws. This makes it much easier to install with a ratchet instead of fighting to get a screw gun into those Phillips head screws while the bracket brace gets in the way. So there were these issues, but the brackets are really strong and I'm very happy with the end result using the lag screws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong, Well Made The paint finish is a hardened enamel that doesn't scratch. There are three holes for mounting. Two are offset to allow fastening past the bracket support. The brackets are easy to install and hold a lot of weight. We used these brackets to hold temporarily hold composite flooring for a project. Each box weighs about 30 lbs. we will add a 3/4" plywood shelf at a later date for a strong storage shelf.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Massive Bracket This bracket is simply massive. The metal is weighty and strong. It has clean lines, just a very basic and no frills design. I used a pair of these to mount a 48" long 16" wide wood shelf in my garage and I have put 3 tub containers on top which hold at least 20-30 pounds each. I used wallboard anchors in my sheetrock, and although I would have preferred to mount these directly into studs, I have not had any issue with the shelf in the week since I put it up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made for the job I wanted plastic tub shelving in my garage. I purchased 5 brackets and cut some 1/2 inch x 2 foot wide plywood. My tubs are sitting pretty. Great sturdy shelf bracket. Very practical. I will make another shelf using the same materials to store our Christmas tree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from strong heavy duty brackets High quality. Make sure to use the correct fasteners for the material you're going into. If the weak point is the fastener, this strong bracket will pop right out of the wall.
