This is heavier than you want for body patches. They have other thinner gauge material that I have used to make body panels, patches, in the past. Look for thinner material but not their thinnest.

It has an oily coating on it to help resist flash rust. It will eventually rust if left out in any moist or corrosive situation. It IS NOT galvanized or zinc coated.
Wipe it off with alcohol, or other solvent. Construction adhesive, (probably a urethane type, would be best), double faced foam tape. Velcro, Command brand strips.
