A: They are standard pin hinges. A little light oil keeps them smooth and quiet.
A: The hinges I received and installed had a very thin layer of oil on them, probably to protect them during shipping and storage before sale. If you didn't remove the oil, paint -- especially water based latex paint. will not stick to them.
A: Simply don’t paint door hinges. They aren’t meant to be painted. But if you have to paint them: prep them, use paint that works on metal, let them cure long enough without closing the door, then sell your house knowing the new owners will probably uninstall and install plain metal hinges because a functional part of the door can stay the metal it is designed to be and no one thinks anything past that. Leave your door knob unpainted as well.
A: The hinges I bought are pre-finished and don't require painting. They have a light coating of oil to preserve the factory finish. If you really want to paint them you'll need to wash them in mineral spirits to get all the oil off. Or you could use a cheaper unfinished hinge.
A: The Everbilt 3-1/2 in. x 5/8 in. Radius Satin Nickel Door Hinge Value Pack (12 per Pack) is not meant to be painted. The finish on these hinges does not let the paint stick to the surface. Please call or visit your local Home Depot Paint Dept and ask the associate for assistance.
A: Sounds like you installed the hinges backwards/inside out. Try flipping the hinge outwards in the other direction.
A: It sounds like one or all three of the hinges were installed backwards. Make sure that the side that you can see, the side that you put the screws into, has the recesses for the screwheads. Otherwise the hinges will not fold flat the way they should.
A: For the Everbilt 3-1/2 in. x 5/8 in. Radius Oil-Rubbed Bronze Door Hinge Value Pack (12 per Pack), it sounds like the hinge needs to be recessed in both the door and the frame. This can be accomplished with a router or butt marker and chisel. Also, perhaps the old hinges are not the same thickness as these hinges which are 5/64" thick. Please call or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a store associate for assistance.
A: They’re backwards. Flip them over.
A: Sounds like the door is being held back by something other than hinges if new hinges were free moving before installing..
