You need to open the hinge and you will see the rest of the mounting holes. You adjust the tension after you have mounted the hinges.

Everbilt 3 in. Bright Brass Double-Action Spring Door Hinge is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but the post caps loosen up with handling and fall off These hinges allow the door to swing open from either side and come back to a close. I used them on a cheap wood screen door for my screened porch (in hopes that my dog will get used to pushing the door open so I can avoid installing a dog door). The door is pretty lightweight, so I used only two hinges. It is just right. If the door was any heavier, it would definitely require a third hinge to have acceptable spring power. My only complaint is that the metal rounded caps (4) that cover the spring posts are simply crimped/pushed on and two of them fell off in my hands. A drop of silicone and it's fine, but this is one small issue with an otherwise solid quality hinge. Also, I had to exchange a new defective hinge, as it was missing the small metal pin in the housing that keeps the internal spring sprung. Made in China, so no surprise. Make sure you do a lot of checking and rechecking before drilling the holes in the jamb, because if you are a little off, the door will swing fine in one direction, but scrape the floor in the other. I learned that the hard way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adjustments are necessary... several This product works GREAT once to adjust the pins. The previous commenter seems to have just installed the hinges without tightening the springs first. This is highly necessary as the swinging action of the door will jostle the pins out if the tension is not holdig them in tight enough. The sagging is due to the springs not being adjusted tight enough. I had my door begin to sag after about 20 swings. That's expected with any dual-action hinge. It's merely a quick adjustment. The leverege pin is included in the package so you can tighten the spring with ease. Once the spring is tight, the pins are incapable of falling out no matter how hard the door swings. If a pin DOES fall out, you must over compensate for the twists that the spring lost after it fell out. BEWARE: This is NOT a "Install right out of the package and it works" item. There is about 20 to 30 minutes of tweaking you will need to do. The hinge springs ARE able to be adjusted while still screwed into the door and frame. Push the door open away from you to work on the spring on the side of the door closest to you so it's away from the jam so you have more clearance to tighten the spring. All-in-all a VERY good product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Directions are useless Construction and quality are both good and it works... that's the good news. I can understand the negative comments in other reviews but not a deal breaker. The not so good news is a list of warnings - 1) Don't even LOOK at the instructions. They are useless. You're better off going straight to YouTube and seeing one of these puppies in action 2) Plan for a 3/8" clearance for the hinge. I am working with a 32" door opening and a 31 3/4" door so there is a plane in my future. 3) I used three hinges and one of them has a broken spring. I can return it and HomeDepot is very understanding about such things, but it's annoying and time consuming. One out of three is not a good fail rate.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poorly written instructions. The instructions for this hinge are the worst I have ever seen. The diagram showed the wrong way to install the hinge on the door. Now there are holes in the door that I need to spackle. The caps on the end of each cylinder come off way too easy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dutch Door I cut a louvered solid core door in half above the knob hole to use the bottom half as a dutch door between kitchen and dining room. Specs show max 30" door/18 lbs. They aren't kidding. The spring wouldn't even lift the 18 lb, 32" half door off the floor. Adding a third hinge below the top hinge did the trick. They seem to work great now. I plan to replace the jamb-side screws though, they are not long enough. As others have noted, the end caps do fall off too easily (quality ding). They also seem a little pricy, especially considering that I needed three of them to hang half a door. Spent more on the hinges that I did on the door. We'll have to wait and see how long the springs last.
